    Hey,
    Im just curious of what kinda injuries I can get from doing/conditioning for Muay Thai. I've done a bit of research and I found out that when you condition your shins, it kills the nerves and stuff which causes Blood clots and Shin Splints. So I was wondering how to prevent this and does this happen to your elbows too? when conditioning them. I also found out that muscle tissues and fibres begin to tear.

    I'm really not sure about starting Muay thai cuz injuries from this might get in the way of my other sports....

    The key is to start slowly. Start by kicking pads, and then move up to a heavy bag. Listen to your body. If something starts hurting, pay attention, it's trying to tell you to stop. Stay away from "rolling" your shins with bottles, or sticks. It will only cause more damage than good. It's going to take time to condition your body. There's no safe, easy way. As far as injuries, it depends on your level of intensity. If you are going to be a fighter, then you can possibly have many things happen. I've torn ligaments in my leg, shin splints, large knots on the shins, and bone spurs.

      What are kick pads?...I've started kicking a punching bag for a bit lately. And what do you mean by rolling your shins with bottles and sticks? (Sorry I'm not very familiar with these terms ) Btw, Im probably just learning Muay Thai as self defence and will only use it if I really have to.

        Thai Pads are standard equipment. Here is a pic: They are held by someone around stomach or chest level to kick. Some people roll bottles or sticks across their shins to try and toughen them.

          About that bottle rolling thing, I read somewhere that you should roll ur shins out after kicking with them to prevent shin splints and blood clots?

            You'd be much better off doing a good rub down with Thai Liniment before and after Kicking.

              Could you please explain what Thai Linament is? or could you suggest anything similar to it that I could use? And what kind or how should I rub my shins before and after?

                The closest thing, smell wise, would be tiger balm. Thai liniment has camphor and oil in it. It helps to numb things a little bit, and helps to get rid of bruising. When I rub it on my shins, I put a good amount on my hand, and rub it into my shins using a deep rubbing motion. I rub it into my shins for several minutes. That will help with the blood circulation.                   Im still unsure about doing Muay Thai, I've been reading bout it and I heard that after conditioning your shins and elbows, it kills the nerves leaving your bones to become brittle later in life?

                    My shoulder was bothering me for like a month. I just got a shot of Cortisone yesterday in my shoulder for my rotator cuff. I guess I have been training too hard and it is inflamed. I need to rest it for a week or so. Thinking of the training I will miss makes me sad

                      Is it possible to just learn Muay Thai but not go through the conditioning?

                      I just decided not to do Muay Thai and looked through for some Kung fu stuff and found I enjoy Muay Thai alot more.

                      But the thing stopping me is all the conditioning....

                      I found out that it causes bone cancer and getting arthritis later in life when smacking your shins and elbows and getting strong in the shins and elbows is only a short term effect

                      Im only doing Muay Thai for self defense, and using it if I ever get in a fight at school or a street fight...So is it possible to just learn it without the conditioning?

                        You don't have to get in "fighter" conditioning shape. Just go at your own pace, and don't do anything stupid like going out and kicking trees, and you'll be fine.
