Well, maybe "terminology" isn't the best term to have used. We teach our students to kick from similar positions, but we just don't describe it quite like that.
For instance, when we teach the Push Kick, we don't merely raise the thigh to horizontal. We raise the knee all the way into the chest, then thrust out, attempting to straighten the body.
