    Hey Gongfu,

While Iron fist or whatever, does not give the same results as hitting a heavy bag, it also does not condition you for a fight...in no way whatsoever. I mean no disrespect to you or your art (they all have purpose), but I have to reply to your recent posts. First of all, how in the heck do you "nail" a newspaper to a "concrete" wall?? (I know, anchor it, right? Why?) And what keeps the newspaper from ripping off of the nail? Sorry, just having some sarcastic fun with it. But seriously, all of that training toughens up your hands, no doubt about it....but,....do you know what wins a street fight and/or a Thai fight?? Total body conditioning, meaning having the stamina, strength, and speed to go the distance...having the quickness and precise timing to evade and score...etc. etc.....Attributes win, bottom line!

Not having Iron Fist conditioning is not what causes guys to break their hands...you will never be able to hit a brick wall hard enough to get to the point of conditioning the wrist strength and bones in the back of the hand, merely the surface gets hardened and calloused. Generally, a boxers's break comes from sloppy tecnique and hands not wrapped securely enough.

This is a Muay Thai forum, after all, as RyuKyu said (I think it was you), and conditioning on the heavy bag, and thai pads, are about the best way to condition for a fight. Of course Plyo's and other non-contact methods for cardio and muscular conditioning work wonders as well....but you all know that.

Not trying to burst your bubble Gongfu, or start and bickering between us, just stating my opinion, that is all. Been in a few street fights and my share of ring battles, so I thought I would speak my mind a bit.

    Peace

yeah i respect what you said you have some good points,

but, in shaolin temples we have tons of heavy bags, filled with grains and sand, and other things, all strung up on raftter structures, we hit bags just as much as a muay thai fighter does, but also do more,

    stretching
    conditioning
    stance holding
    mental training
real life combat situation training no ring sports stuff

shaolin training is the most diverse system to date, could anybody here name a training style, that has more benefits and diverse training regimes than shaolin gong fu?, i personally havent come across a style with so much diversity under its roof, nor have i found a training lifestyle more challenging and tough mentally and physically, our style cannot be used in the ring fully for good reason, we dont want fatalities in a sports match, im not dissrespecting any style here, but i am giving props to shaolin fully for its achievements and levels of diversity and realistic combat situation and condition training, i do taiji, i do boxing, i started muay thai recently, i do systemma, even dabble in some judo and other styles, freestyle training, so im not dissing any here, but i have to say if i could choose only one style to train under for my whole life, it would be shaolin, but as i have more options open, i choose every style of training and try to do it all,

    peace,

here is an unclear picture at a Karo Parisyan seminar...I am on the left with blue shorts:

background: started with kyokushin karate for a few years...then MT for a few years mixed with BJJ and boxing. As far as tournaments are concerned: I have no desire, time, nor the age to compete in the ring.

Thanks for getting us back on track. There are still a lot of regular posters who have not introduced themselves yet. For academic study that is.l

Hey, I just want to thank everyone real quick for keeping this going and keeping it friendly. I had thought at first that it would be a pic of me and then a bunch of heckling, so thanks to all. Also I appreciate how on track we've kept it. I know I went off on a joke about me on the beach (no disrepect Hardball, your pics prove at the least katas physical benefits, I just think I'm a funny guy ) and I apologize for that.

Once again thanks a TON to everyone who has participated, and to those who will in the future...

Not too hard. Just saved the pic to my computer, opened it in photoshop, resized it, and then hosted it on my pic hosting site.
