I think that he came in 2nd or 3rd in 2003. He said that he wasn't training for triathalons at the time.
That is when I went. Is David the one from Mexico? First day a taller guy (I thought from Australia, but not sure) won, I was second, David (if that is him form Mexico) was third. The rest of the days though, I have no idea which on of them were first or second...I was waaaay back in the middle nursing the cramped legs..lol.
Yea, that is what I thought...I remember him. He is a super nice guy, and one hell of a runner. I would love to go this year, but it just isn't gonna happen...too many things going on this summer with fights, the funds are low. Gonna try to make it a priority next year though.
Ok I don't even know if anyone will notice a post on this one anymore, but thank you so much to everyone who posted, it's a REALLY useful thread!
I do have one question though, try not to laugh too hard. Are the showers...well they're not...are they...uh...co-ed, or time-share or anything like that? I have no idea what kind of facilities I'm walking into here, it said to bring a tent, so obviously not a lot of permanent structures. I assume there ARE showers...I hope. Oh, and should I bring a swimming suit? Heh.
There are definitely showers and they aren't co-ed.
the 'camp' is a state park with a men's and women's bathroom - running water, flushing toilets and (mostly) hot showers. The men's showers are pretty crowded, the ladies facilities are not.
Probably don't need to worry about a suit at this camp. More important - bring something 'more comfortable' which you can slip into it at night... like flannel pants, a clean t-shirt and some slippers/teva's/flip-flops.
Probably better bring some good mosquito repellent this year. Camp Wilkerson is in the 'West Nile Virus' zone. Also, please read the transportation info I posted at another thread. Weather forecast is for 80s in the day and 50s at night, much more comfortable than last year. I was informed last night that 6 cooks from the best Thai restaurant in Los Angeles have gotten a week off to cook for us. We can never forget the intense interest and wholehearted support the Royal Kingdom of Thailand has given us for 15 years now. Wow......15 years! I actually think I am the only one of the 'core group' who has gained weight .....................
Thank you! Yes I did see the travel info from the other thread. May I ask another question? How far do we jog in the morning? We've been going at least 4 mi. every day just incase, and often 6 or more. Heh, my training partner did 14 yesterday Anyway, if we need to be able to do 10 at a stretch then we need to up the time we spend jogging, but if we're doing too much we can devote that time to technique etc. And thank you so much for the help by the way!
the road we run on at Wilkerson is uphill and a little rough, so Ajarn cut the runs pretty short last year - maybe 1.5-2.0 miles. Of course I don't know if he will do that again but three miles is probably the max (half uphill, then back down).
Yeah, although the distance is about half as far, I think Wilkerson is a harder jog than Silver Falls. Just for a personal training note, current theory seems to be to run about 6 miles max, but work on shortening your times. Unless, of course, you are training to run. About 60% totally new people this year, and most from the United States. Extended weather forecast says 70s during the day and 50s at night. More banana bags this year; depending on recent arrivals from the East Coast, either 2 or 3 more. With luck only 3 non-banana bags, my 200-pounder and Dan Burke's two brown soft leather bags. Ajarn Chai wants everyone to know: "It's hard to get in, but harder to get out." We are going to have more drums during workouts, and hopefully enough spare people to drum. Still in negotiations for an espresso/capuccino vendor...lol We are out of control!! But the 15th Anniversary shirts are awesome, according to those who have seen them; sort of a retro look. Sorry to be rambling so much, but on my way to visit my 88-year-old mother this weekend I heard some sad news. The man who wrote 'The Hokey-Pokey' has died. Seems the funeral was really difficult for the family. They put his left leg in... See ya soon
I'm fortunate to say that I will be attending Master Chai's Oregon training camp this summer. However, I'm a little nervous about the experience and I was hoping that some of you here might have some good advice for me. Currently I'm ramping up my training schedule and intensity, but I'm still not certain what I should expect. If there is anything you guys might recommed, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
Del
PS any advice about accomodations, food, medicine... etc etc... would also be greatly appreciated.
heh heh, first off, there are at least two Oregon Camp threads on this sight already. I suggest you find and read them, because there's a lot of good info there. Um...I guess I'd say to report back here with any questions after you've read the availible info. Congrats on going to camp dude!
