  • Odd and Unusual training

i wanted to see what kind of unusual or uncommonly used methods of training people have.

    - i've tied an elastic band from a wall to my hip to work on hip rotation for punches
    - burpee into divebomber pushup
    - partner wheel barrel and every 5 feet do 5 pushups with feet still up
    - when i was young (and broke) i hung coke cans from the overhang in my backyard and used those for target practice

those're just off the top of my head... i'm interested to see what other people do.

I don't believe in odd and unusual training. Just basic, straight to the point grinding of technique and bodywork... :P

gabbah, i agree with you..... 90% of the time

the reason why i ask is because you have to be REALLY into it to 'grind' the basics everyday and most people aren't... and so i like to throw in non-traditional training to change it up and keep them interested

      thanks for the reply

Yes that is very true.. most people get bored with the grind approach. I see that in my gym... and because of that I think people get a taste of everything but masters none of it.
So many times I will train with a buddy on stuff I really need and really work it over and over.
I guess one unusual but still useful thing to train is trying to remove the reflex to blink when strikes come your way.

learn to juggle, good for timing, rythm, and hand eye-coordination.
helps make your off hand smarter (left if you are a righty, ie)

Carrying a partner on your back and walking in a deep squat then doing pushups at the end. Then your partner does it. Its cool cause you motivate eachother.

              What i have done.....

A ball on a string and somone swings it in circles and i have to hit it with punches, kicks, elbows, and knees. note: i used a smallish and softish ball, and also you can use it on a slightly stretchy string. it helps accuracy.

Squat down with only the balls of your feet touching the fround and heels touching your butt, do hand techniques like that good for balance, technique, and knowing how to center the hand movements propally.

I have also done the soda can thing, except with other types of bottles and stuff too.

umm ill get bak 2 u l8er when i can think of more crap i have done.

Yeh we do that too. It brings out the competitive nature of people and promotes it positively so that it acts as friendly motivation.
