lol its fkin true..... in every mother fkin MCDOJO tkd school...or karate or w/e.....you have mother fkers screaming "HAAAA-YA" "OSU" "AYYYYYYYY" and the kids will make you def after about a week going into it......i mean kyokushin is a great art....so is san shou.....but TKD...be realistic.....the only moves that i'd only learn there is the spinning heel kick and too improve my flexibility more......then i'd just bounce without even paying that old motha fka.....

Why do you sound soooo unintelligent in this post JayMack? Were you never one of those little screaming kids way back when? They are the future of our sport, so rather than bashing them and diminishing their efforts..how about encouraging them and maybe getting more of them into Muay Thai?? I run a gym with Muay Thai, FMA, MMA, oh and yes KARATE for the little ones...from 4 yrs. old thru 13 (14 becomes an adult) and quite frankly, I would rather go deaf listening to them belt out a loud Kiiaaiiiii, in an effort to improve themselves and BE sombody, than to read your short swearing and tough guy attitude. Yes, I know, I could have just clicked on another thread, but when I see this kind of crap I have to state my opinion as well.

Now, to the person (i forgot who and too lazy to scroll back through) who said something about gym taking money and are all "commercialized"....just because you charge fopr classes does not make you commercialized. I charge for my services and there is no way in hell my gym is commercialized.

The original post I believe was a complaint about the head instructor forcing the guy to take TKD first when what he wanted was MT. He was willing to pay, just not for TKD. I am in agreement with him if the story is accurate, I would have went to the garage too. But some of you on here have slid of course a bit and seem to want to poke fun at the kids. While I do not care for TKD myself, TKD and Karate or both great for kids..it is the "Life Skills" that they need to learn and they will get that in those arts.

Can we get the original post back on track at some point here with some intelligence please, thank you!

Most arts fall victim to commercialism.

Doesnt matter about $...... MT teaches you easy convenient techniques..whereas TKD teach you all these uneccessary kicks and what not.PLUS MT gym have full contact sparring....also when theres a MT gym you could expect there to be Boxing, BJJ, MMA, in that gym as well...whereas TKD you pay 252905290528583259 dollars for one art and thats TKD itself and you have little mother fkin kids running around like a bunch of idiots....sure a lot of MT gyms are mcdojos and are commercialized but im far better off training at a MT gym...where there are grown men and people my age training there...not some freakin soccer moms kicking the air.

I actually ordered some equipment online yesterday, I was surprised how cheap it was! Rico (my MT trainer) and I are training 3 times a week now. The class is getting bigger every day, tons of people are interested in MT, its great! He's looking for a location to start his own gym soon...

Second, as a former tkd instructor fu*k this dick head, I can him being concearned about liabiltiy issue via mt training and fc sparring ok, but to try and force somone especially a combat vet nco to take a class with kids in an art he is not interested in studying is fucking lame.
Keep train at the mt guys house and also think about having a home ma gym I have one and it great although I always preferr to train under instructors at a gym obviously.

I have to agree with Patrick G. When i had to stop training at the school( witch was really heartbreaking, but im going back soon!!!) i just bought a few things, focus mitts from TKO.com-$20.00 no tax free del. Thai Pads-$57.00 a pair including shipping and handling from combatsports.com- a good jump rope- any retail store nowadays$5-10.00 bucks.. And wala. its almost a gym, but you get the idea, you still get to train, running is free, and hell if your instructor is willing to come over , make the investment, i did, and its almost the best thing i did, other than going to an actuall gym that is....Good Luck!

After a search that lasted almost two years, I finally found an instructor in my area for muay thai. Unfortunately the only place around here that has a fully equipped martial arts school is a TKD place here in Junction City, KS, and he works there as an instructor. I got in touch with him and he was more than happy to train with me on weekends. But the head instructor at the school told him if we used his equipment and trained in the school, I would be required to also enroll in his beginner TKD class, doing all the bullshit forms and low-low-low impact training and discipline, respect B.S. just like all the 8 year olds. Did I forget to mention it will cost me about 100$ a month? The muay thai instructor was going to train me for free! I learned plenty about respect and discipline in the 6 years I was in the US Army, do I really need to practice my Keeah's and Ayyah's with the kids and earn my pretty belts and learn "life skills" with his beginners? Hell no! Just another example of how these TKD schools and Karate dojos just want to cash in on nerdy kid's parents... And it makes me sick. The muay thai instructor told me we'd just train grassroots style at his house and I'm cool with that, but that TKD guy just pissed me off and I had to bitch about it... Anyone with similar experiences?

Here's an idea for ya...

Invest in your own equipment, bag and all...set it up at your own home...then, invite the Muay Thai instructor over for privates with you there...of course, in this case you should give him some cash on the side for his troubles...

I took it with a grain of salt, the whole reason why I started this topic was to see if anyone else had similar experiences. I do admit my choice of words was a bit extreme, I guess I wanted to get people's attention. I just returned from 13 months in Iraq in January. Its extremely annoying to me when people are so greedy when Ive seen firsthand how less fortunate people have to live... I'm rambling now, I apologize. Train hard, fight harder!

You're on a Muay Thai forum, nobody's going to argue that TKD is superior. I compleatly understand that you want MT, not TKD, and that's fine. I'm also glad you found an instructor you like, and I appreciate the need to vent about a situation that's bothersome.

Don't you think you could give the gym owner a break at this point though? I'll believe you when you say you are a respectful man with honor and integrety. That being the case, I'm sure you'll have no problem understanding that the head instructor and owner of a gym has the right to ask what he wants of those using his space. I believe that you offered him a fair deal, but when he declined, I have faith that you (as a man with character) can see that his lack of generosity does not need to have any affect on your conduct.

Also remember that you are perfectly free to train elsewhere, and he doesn't owe you anything.

He just moved to the area, but already he has ten students after three weeks and about ten more are coming next weekend to check it out. Thai boxing is getting extremely popular, I think at this rate he'll have more students than the TKD class and he'll start his own school. He mentioned he's looking for a place to start one. About half of the guys I met are from the TKD class and I was very intrigued by the fact that they all liked the MT training more than TKD. Food for thought...

my minimum expenses are 6K a month, that is before I get paid, so yeah geez this guys is obviously getting rich. LOL! people are stupid sometimes.


But no matter what you say it doesn't matter, it's his school and if you want to use his facilities you got to play by his rules. The MT instructor probaby just pays for time to use the facility. Obviously he's not making enough to open his own school because he doesn't have one.
