I used to focus much more of class sessions on teaching traditional MuayThai... observing the Wai Kru, learning the various Ram Muays, paying proper Thai respect to the gym and your fellow students, learning some Thai terminology, and such.... But what I found is that the vast majority of my students could care freaking less about authentic, traditional MuayThai. They just want to come and hit the pads and sweat a lot.

I have had to find much more subtle methods to introduce traditional Thai training. I begin and end every class with a simple Wai Kru. I try to introduce traditional MuayThai technique and strategy into our training sesions, but I've found that I have to maintain the focus on the modern ring MuayThai. And by modern ring MuayThai, I mean American modified Ring MuayThai.

Its frustrating, but when I start trying to teach REAL MuayThai, I notice that I begin to lose my students focus....

So now I focus on running a good workout, teaching good technique and combinations based on the principles of traditional MuayThai, and then hope that one day one of my students will approach me for more....
It's too bad I don't still live on the east coast cause I would love to train with you. The old ways & tradition are very important to me at this stage of my training. When I started I was interested in all it's history but at the time could only get answers from Ajarn Chai upon his visits. My teacher really didn't know too much. But it was also 1994...

Every blue moon, I run across people who are interested in MuayThai's more traditional training methods. I share what I know of them. Don't get me wrong, I'm no expert, but I know a heck of a lot more than most in my area.

Heck, one of the reasons I spend so much time posting on these internet message boards is because I want to be sure the information gets out there and is not completely forgotten.

"McDojo" typically refers to one of those martial arts schools that has earned the reputation of being a "belt factory". In other words, pay your monthly fees and show up to class, and you're practically guarenteed to acheive your various belt ranks whether you've truly mastered the techniques or not.

Sometimes one should face reality, I´ve been trying to learn as much as possible of traditional MT , even when it´s not even difficult, the McDojo sindrome is very common around here . But you can see the real thing on the ring. The McDojo teachers lose easily but they have great excuses , It´s a good thing that you´re still focused , even when it seems impractical .I hope some day to train in your Gym

I hope it`s not the case in your town , MT and Kickboxing actually work like that , because they follow the structure of commercial karate and TKD "You `ve spent a full hour, kids you can go home " . It takes some dedication and spend your time to learn some basic tecniques and moves , not to mention sparring , if you are planning to fight. And it`s more likely that MT can be misunderstood as it happened with some other disciplines ,
