All I can do is give you my opinion. If you want to fight, learn to fight and fight. Muay Thai is tremendous in that respect. I liked some of the muay chaiya self defense and stuff like that. There are teachers who are good at fighitng within muay chaiya but not the commercial ones ranting and raving like on these forums. Even in the major bare knuckle competitions like for the april holiday, they send muay thai guys to fight. The muay chaiya dudes and all the others should be trying their hand at that against the burmese. I would say muay thai is great then you get the subtles of lerd rit or krabi krabong or muay chaiya because you already tempered by the tough and direct muay thai training since they are all inter related its good. Thats what I want to do in the future. I will always continue with muay thai and fight but i will learn the others too. I enjoy them even though I rant on here like a lunatic, I just dont like the politics it ruins the very fun of learning and training because the thai people are alot of fun to be with and train hard with.

MMA is just the best, one of the most beautiful sports to me in the world. If you want to do MMA, then you can stay right where you are and do it or go to brazil. I love MMA.

Hopefully sportmuaythai will give you his insights but those are my own honest ones.

Hi George,

Have you studied Muay Chaiya,as you understand it very well reading from your posts.

Is this art worth learning?

or is the ring muay thai good enough, from what i have seen of muay chaiya clips this style would get wiped out in a real fight in the ring,there kicks look week,there punches look week, standing on one leg in a fight is dangerous as you will fall down,

what is the logic behind this style is it for real.

Put a muay chaiya guy in the mma and they will get a beating regardless of who the persons teacher is in thailand.

Sportmuaythai might be able to provide a better answer but it seemed to me there were a few basics throws and locks, more quick tactics than extensive tactics akin to judo, jiujitsu, and the like. They had some nice self defense techs in the self defense part. But like I said maybe sportmuaythai can elaborate or tell us more about that.

Wanted to ask a question, does tradational muay thai have throws and locks as i see in muay chaiya they seem to have throws and locks, is this the only thai boxing style that has this?
Also is muay chaiya an effective street art for self defence?

Those guys obviously are not going full contact,they must have set some rules for a friendly light sparring contest or something like that.

Best thing is where is the great mai muay? Praeng can dance it but he certainly cant use it or teach how to use it realistically. Its an excellent case in point. So why do I need the mai muay chaiya DVD?

Kru Praeng believes he can criticize and be the godhead of muay chaiya while not proving any skill or any anything other than dancing. I give him the award for "best dancer"of the year, leave the fighting to the fighters and people who understand fighting.

Its such a beautiful example of the graceless stupidity that has taken hold and an ample example of people to avoid in martial arts.

In this day and age, why get involved in politics of another land with people of no intelligence or skill? Find teachers that embody the truth of their martial art and give it in an ego less way that is beneficial for all involved. I feel for the poor guy who travels all the way around the world to train and get involved in this non sense.

And also why does kru Praeng have to talk bad about other
Chayia teachers such as the monk who was kru Tong's student too and
I heard from a reliable source that he knows how to fight.
Sportmuaythai's post proves that he's also a good teacher since his
student won a bareknuckle bout with a Burmese boxer, that's surely not
an easy task!

He's not the only Chayia teacher kru Praeng has been trying to downgrade,
I met a Chayia teacher from BKK and he was kind, humble and nice and he never talked bad about anyone and in the end other teachers do not care
about kru Praeng's claims they just want to do their job in peace.

That is beyond pathetic.

It totally validates everything i have said and it is proof beyond a reasonable doubt, kru praeng knows nothing about fighting in the real world. Kru lek is not a fighter either but I dont think he professes to be since he is an accomplished artisit first and foremost. I hope this puts a solid end to americans attempting to listen to and propagate anymore nonsense on behalf of kru praeng.

Kru Praeng has no right to criticize anyone's fighting ability since he has none especially the american he criticized who would put him in an early grave.

Its proof positive the pathetic mess praeng and the others created and how they have soiled Muay Chaiyas image.

Praeng needs to stick to his ancient dancing and stop the ego ranting. Kru Tong did not teach him how to fight wiht muay chaiya only be a phys ed instructor to teach at the university level where its safe and clean.

In time, he is going to get what is coming to him and boy its going to be a brutal comedown when reality comes knocking.

which I posted above as well. The video clip of one fight is now available for viewing. I was shocked to see two youngsters who appear to know nothing about muay chiiya attempting to fight. The guy in the grey sleeveless T-shirt is a kru Praeng's instructor, and the other is kru Lek's student. If the instructor can only fight like an untrained fighter, you can't expect his students to be able to do much. There is a buddhist monk who trains muaychaiya to his fighters, and one of them won a main bout by a KO at the annual Mae Sod Songkran festival this April, against a Burmese. Sadly, kru Praeng's students belittle him (the monk).
BTW I'd like to hear what you guys think of the fight. Personally, I think it's pathetic.

Hi Sportmuaythai,

I still think it's a bad situation for Muay Chaiya, George' s example is good and I have been through both
a style of wing chun and muay boran because of my ignorance, and learned a lot about marketing and how to fool people.

Once I met other teachers and understood that it was all about BS marketing
it was frustrating for me to start again, so much time, money and energy wasted.

I would have probably gone training with kru Praeng if I hadn't met serious
people who helped me and informed me about other thai teachers and systems. Oddly these teachers are not on a pedestal nor wish to be there,
my teacher even told me he was not so good!

I am a beginner in Muay Chaiya and I have to do my time with this style (as it should be with any style or muay) but at least I can be sure to be doing
what I was looking for with serious persons, and this counts a lot!

BTW I liked a post of yours where you advised to go through sport Muay Thai
for awhile before training Muay Chaiya, it does make a lot of sense to me.

you are right this gives a bad reputation to Muay Chaiya, but it should
be a lesson for those who want to commercialize and promote themselves
through false claims and ego.

Dear Tee Sok, I'm neither right nor wrong. I'm just posting what is on a Thai board. I'm not "Schooling Praeng's Instructors". Apparantly, there is controversy in the report on Thai thread. An instructor from Kru Preang claimed to have come out better. So the fight (fights) probably did take place. I've nothing against muay chaiya. I think that if both kru Preang and kru Lek look at the fight objectively, they could gain from this instead of making both camps drift apart. I also think that if all camps of muay chaiya get together, and hold regular contest, they will learn to respect each other, and improve their teaching curriculum at the same time. Also, the stabbings can stop. But the contest must be held in good faith to improve muay chaiya, and not to settle score.
