  • Thai Food

    Hey Guys-

I am new to the forum just wanted to say whats up. I plan on making the trek to thailand in a few years, gotta pay those school loans down before i head over. I am just curious to as if anyone has any suggestions of thai dishes to try. I feel as though perhaps some of the thai food over here in america has been well americanized to suit our tastes better. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks!

try everything that looks tasty, avoid stalls that thais dont buy from, if a place is busy its probably because its good.
thai food is great but if you go for a long time you may miss some of the food from home as well.

Remember to order your food "peht peht" for that authentic experience!

Right on! That, along with pad kra paow moo was one of my favourite staples.

If you're there in mango season (April to June), mango with sticky rice (kao niao ma ma-muang).

LOL yes this is very important, ALWAYS say Peht peht, and if they look at you like are you sure?
                Say Peht Mak maak.
This means please make it extra tasty.

Well im trying to learn how to cook some of these so im starting off simple. I decided to start with gai pad gratiem prik thai- or essentailly Garlic and Pepper chicken with fried rice. I let you know how this goes.

I made chicken and vegetables in coconut milk yesterday. I don't normally do authentic Thai cooking, but instead do simple "Thai-style" stuff. It was sort of like a Tom Kha Gai, but without the Kha....

                          Chicken
                          Carrots
                          Bamboo Shoots
                          Baby Corn
                          Coconut Milk
                          Nam Pla
                          Cilantro
                          Sweet Chili Sauce

keep an eye on the calorie counts guys when using that coconut milk.
Its like lard from the trees.
