Kettlebells dude, strengthen up that core.

If pain persists, see a doctor.

Probably best to figure out the cause of the pain before anything like kettlebells.

Before doing anything try to find someone (expert) who can help you identify the root cause of the pain. In other words, it may not be your lower back but another area that was weakened in the past and now stresses your lower back. Check out the Functional Movement Screening System (FMS) at Exercise, kettlebell strength training, conditioning, diet and health: the ultimate fitness workout. Another good resource is Z-Health.

Kettlebells are the best way to strengthen the core but will cause more injury if you do not identify the root cause and fix it.

Experts in the field are Brett Jones and Gray Cook. You can find their contact information at the dragondoor web site.

        Good Luck!

turned out my issue was the psoas major (lower back)...I went to get a deep tissue massage with my girlfriend for our anniversary and they fixed me right up...and it turns out that by massaging by the groin towards the head of the femur (deep, painful) helps immensely. Since then, no issue. Occasionally I have to get in there and loosen the muscle a little bit by the insertion point...
never would have thought to do that...dur.

Garland man, I hate deep tissue. I get more benefit from the swedish massage.

I prefer deep tissue, rolfing, thai massage, and straight up chiropractic stuff. If my joints aren't popping and it ain't hurtin...the massage is no good.

Yea, they say it has long term benefits..............if you make it through the massage alive. LOL
