Traditional Thai tattoos

call me a skeptic but when i get tattoos i make sure i see the artist take a new needle out of the packaging. it may have been different when the traditional style came about but with all of the crap you can catch through contact like that now it just doesn't seem safe to me. go for a tattoo with a side of aids? i think not.

You are right, needles must be checked before getting a tattoo. That's why in the West they open the needle packaging in front of you and they store them in aseptcic containers all the time.

from what i seen the monks dont use new needles each time because they are these old long needle like rods. had a few friends who did it that way without a problem but its kind of scary.

Indeed. I do think that the monks are aware of the possibility of spreading some disease so I think they disinfect them, I am sure you will ask about that!

I believe that the Ministry of Health now issue permit or license to approved tatoo artists ( including Sak Yant), so hygene will not be a problem. Arjan Sua Khemdevada, last listed web site is becoming quite known. I don't know if he will tattoo foreigner, but his tattoos are beautiful. The contact telephone is on the right bottom of the page. Better get a Thai to make the call for you if interested. BTW I don't have a tattooyet.

I was told the same in Thailand, that a Sak Yant ajarn tattooed Anjelina
Jolie and Van Damme also, but I don't know if it was the same person.
It's getting so widespread now, so it's good the government keeps it clean
and safe.

Dear TeeSok, ArJaanNoo did Anjelina, but I don't know who tattooed Van Damme. Arjaan Noo got so much publicity, his fee has gone up considerably. Also it's getting to be like The Chaiya Grape Kool Aid, with much mud slinging among the tattooers. I guess business competition is getting into them. I just noticed that on

top right of web page, you can click the Brit flag and get English. So Arjaan Sua does accept foreign clients. His work is beautiful, and about four times cheaper than Arjaan Noo. He is known for his tiger glancing back tattoo( Yant Sua Liao Lhang).

He also uses modern tatto machine, so changing needle is a snap. His office is easier to get to, and if you use Chao Praya express boat, you can get close to his office, with taxi connection.

I remember ajarn noo each year his prices were going up and up and up. Some friends went over there one year then another two years later and the prices were insane. So its like chaiya, its all selling, selling, selling.........

Arjan Noo has become totally commercialized, and I mentioned Arjan Sua Khemdevada only because his works are beautiful, and he passed the Ministry of Health certification for being hygenic, and you can get the modern tattooing machine with disposable needle. Take the black magic with a grain of salt. Like I said previously, it's getting to be like The Chaiya Grape Kool Aid.

Thanks sportsmuaythai for the info. I think its important to know if there is hygenic method being used for most of us. Do you know ajarn thoy in bangkok? was wondering about him. So much selling the kool aid is everywhere and spreading at a mad pace!
