I purchased the Krabi Krabong DVD's. Its a very informative 2 DVD documentary. Even though I do not study Krabi Krabong, and quite frankly have no real desire to, I did very much enjoy them as a historical lesson on how Krabi Krabong (and to a minor extent, MuayBoran) evolved.

There are some things that I saw in the videos that are Krabi Krabong lessons/drills that I believe I can apply to my MuayThai. That makes the investment worth it!

One of the foremost practitioners of Krabi-Krabong, and the highest-ranking foreigner ever to attend the Buddhai Sawan is Ajarn Tony Moore, who runs Sitsiam Muay Thai in Manchester, England. Khru Tony also is the President/Founder of the British Thai Boxing Council and former Hong Kong Muay Thai Champion.

I myself believe Krabi-Krabong, like the Filipino Martial Arts, Japanese Karates and most other martial arts, to have styles. Krabi-Krabong seems to be divided into two main principles, however. As Ajarn Pedro Villalobos has written, it can be called the Northern (Chaiya) Style, described as rounder, indirect and possibly Chinese or Burmese-influenced, or the Southern Style, direct and called by some simple, as taught by the Buddhai Sawan School, among others. Nowadays, most styles in Thailand owe something to the Buddhai Sawan within their lineage, as PaKroo Samai Masamarn helped so much to revive Krabi-Krabong after World War II. There is much more to this than I know, and a lot can be learned from the Ancient Muay Thai Academy's website, as well as from the new books and DVDs coming from Ajarn Vincent Giordano this spring.

                    • Hi Chalambok,

Thanks for your reply and i will look at the Ancient Muay Thai website, it will be good to have some books on the krabi krabong and it is good news that Ajarn Vincent will have a book, as so far there is no information published in book format on this area, i searched my local book store and library.

Does any one know about what style of krabikrabong is the school www.krabikrabong.it
I put krabikrabong in google search engine and the above school was listed. Is this school traditional?, Northern or southern?

                      Best Regards

                      • I don't like them, the guy is a student of ajarn Thonglor. One of the many students ajarn Thonglor has had. Yet this guy acts like he is somebody, the one and only. In their forum they look down on other systems and masters, like the Buddhai Sawan for instance. It is true that the school has been losing credibility (from what I heard and read) but to say that Por Kru Samai and his system are no good is insulting and shows their ignorance.

Well, Arlan Stanford studied at the Buddhai Sawan with Por Kru Samai and I don't think his KK is bad at all. A fact proven by himself and his brothers who
have been proposing top notch material (including KK) for at least 20 years, without claiming this and that.

Again, he is just one of the students and the only one who decided to show off with websites and claims. That's a bad attitude, if he studied in Thailand he should have learned true respect and humility. The old thai masters don't go around shouting.
Others have trained in this and other systems for longer, have achieved much more than him and yet they do not have that attitude.

                        • Hi Tee Sok,

I agree with what you say.

It is good to hear that there are true masters in the west of krabi krabong and traditional muay thai.

I hope the real masters of krabi krabong will share there knowledge with us on this forum, so we can be educated in what the art of krabi krabong and traditional muay thai is and who the real teachers of these arts are.

This will be a benefit for every one who wants to know about the true art.

                          Best Regards

                          • I concur with Tee Sok on much of what he is saying as we have had lively conversations and debates with the italian contingent. They believe they hold the holy grail of kk, both nothing in their writing, their video clips or anything show anything special or deep.

Vincent Giordano has the first double dvd set on the buddhai sawan method out now, www.buddhaisawanpath.com, well worth the investment as his research is deep and constantly on going. You can join his email newsletter which has tons of info as well. He also has the col amnat dvds out which give an overview of the bare knuckle systems at www.ancientmuay.com and ancientbareknuckle.com. The material is slowly coming out.

I love the thai martial arts so anything out I just absorb as quickly as possible.

                            • Hi George,

Thanks for your info on the thai arts much appreciated.
I will invest in the DVD's you mention.

The Italians there school does this go back to Thailand and is this style a proper style of Krabi Krabong the website seems to reflect that is a Tradtional art, but is northern or southern? have you seen this style?

Are there teachers of Krabi Krabong and traditional Thai boxing that teach in Thailand, can you give me direction from who i can learn Krabi Krabong and Traditional Muay Thai in Europe or Thailand.

                              Best Regards
