  • Why bother fighting in the RING!!!!!???

This thread is in reply to goatnipples2002 who seems to hang around THAIBOXING / KICKBOXING forum's saying :

The ONLY ring that matters has curbs!!!!!

I'm naturally a boxer, but I'll destroy your knee in a second.

REAL Fighters go bare knuckle in the streets.

I don't practice any specific art I train for urban street defense. What the hell is "combat sport". COMBAT AND SPORT DO NOT BELONG IN THE SAME SENTENCE. In combat people lose lives or take some, in sport fighting they play pattsy cake.

Why do ppl learn to fight for fun/comp instead of learning to stop muggers and rapist? Why learn to fight in the ring instead of the streets where it really counts?
    .................................................................................................... ...

If your a thaiboxer or kickboxer etc.. or just competing & believe in what you train for please leave a reply for Mr nipples (who's never fought in the RING himself SUPRISE SUPRISE)

    goatnipples2002 read this:

I dont brag about my thaiboxing or slag off any other martial arts as i respect them for CHOOSING their style & dedicating themselves to it, so what if someone wants to go down their local gym just to keep fit or learn a little self defence or compete in a SPORT or COMPETITION, i practice my skills for the street but i dont have to go out looking for fights, making a lot of noise or getting a criminal record just to fight, thats what the RING enables you to do:
to fight against an opponent using full contact techniques with shins (not soft insteps), fists, elbows, knees, leg grabs & throws against a small set of rules which because of these you dont get killed & are able to learn from you mistakes & adapt your techniques.
i agree that you dont know if you can fight/take a punch/defend yourself until you fight someone but you dont always have to go to the street to learn it!!!!!

I DONT PREACH WHAT I TEACH I JUST PROVE IT

It has been my misfortune to learn that all things British are weak and all the subjects of the Crown are pansies.

      Especially British Law Enforcement.

          Why bother?

What was the point of this topic? Teaching pigs to sing?

Sorry, just bustin' your chops a bit. Goatnipples has his own interpretation of reality, and he is entitled to it, just as the rest of us have ours.

If he does not comprehend our love of sport fighting, then no amount of explaining or arguing with him is gonna help. If you don't agree with him, great, but lets not start a flame war.

That is exactly what I'm talking about!

Retired has got it, he understands what I was trying to convey to the goat guy. What better way is there to learn to fight than to get into a ring with a highly conditioned athlete and duke it out! Most "streetfighters" are nothing more than bums who fight other bums, I'm sorry, if I test the effectiveness of my style I'm not gonna do it with the guy that's got 6 beers in him and smokes a pack of Marlboros a day. Khun Kao also has a point, if goatnippies doesn't want to listen that's fine, but as he said, everybody has their own truth and they all deserve to be heard, including us sport guys . There is no need to turn this into a flame war, as long as we keep things respectful, we can talk about anything. Retired, congrats to you man, good thread.

Retired, your article brings out some good points. I agree its not necessary or wise to be loud and start street fights (unless you're Tank Abbot lol) to prove oneself.

Also, I don't have any beef with the English, unless its served with a proper beverage (i.e. Guiness). Its true that your beers are better than ours. Each nation has its own treasures.

                    why ring fight?

The #1 reason for fighting in compitition is because you enjoy it.
the #1 reason for self-defense orianted folks to compete is to train yourself to handle/overcome fear, you can do drills till the cows come home or go out for a hamburger, you can spar for hours, but that doesen't teach you how to control your emotions, you CAN go out and get in real fights if you don't mind jail time, or taking the chance of getting killed by somebody that doesn't know that your just trying to practice, lets see! ring or street, your choice.

Its up to the individual. Man this was a waste of forum space this thread really, I mean you got to have the brains to come to the conclusion he likes competition and you dont end of story. Come on man wake up!!!!

Maybe the webmaster for these forums should create a separate forum called "Martial Arts and Street Applications". That way the MT forum can focus on training, techniques, and history for ring sport and goatnipples and others not interested in ring sport can discuss their street fighting without the two crossing and creating a bunch of arguments...

                        Just a thought.

Thank You for all the attention I'm a superstar now!!!!!

I understand fighting against people who are conditioned, it's called SPARRING you dumb fukks. I meant why fight in tournaments? What's the purpose of a fukking trophy. I spar all the time, but I refuse to fight fo other peoples enjoyment. Maybe I'm used to street fughts, no rules no refs. I believe self defense is exactly that not "sport defense".

skilzkid I truly agree with you. Damn good point and you said it without any disrespect.

Szczepankiewicz you're right they do tend to be a little candy ass over there.
