A street situation is any self defense situation where you are attacked by someone. Its just a term to use sine most self defense situations happen on the streets.

One time I was in a park skateboarding with 2 brothers and about 15 gangster thug wannabe kids attacked us and beat the living crap out of me. I got beat down and I just laid there against a metal fence in the fetal position and it lasted for like 30 seconds. And believe me that 30 seconds feels like 30 hours and it hurt so bad!! If you havnt been beat up or hit very hard then you have no idea how bad it really hurts. One of the guys I was with ripped the jerks off of me and they started to attack him and they he tried to kick them and punc them but there were too many. You get hit all over the place over and over from every direction in a group beating. You cant really escape once they suround you. Your screwed. I ended up running into a random house (thank God they didnt have a gun and shoot me) and they called the cops and the little punks ran away.
Oh and before the beating started I was being pushed and this kid was telling me to give him my skateboard and I said no and he kept pushing me so I took my board and smacked him on the side of his head but I hit him with the lower part so the board nicked his head and didnt hit full on. DANGIT! So he wasnt hurt that bad. but I was. GEEEZ! Most of those guys who attacked me claimed to know thai boxing and all that. Whats funny is all they did was brawl on me and kick me over and over and stomp and punch.
But my friend who kicked at them said they blocked with their shins.

Once when I was really young I had a neighborhood fight and it was like a little brawl. 2 twins and this tomboy huge tough girl were picking on me and a friend. I ended up smacking one of the twins with a right cross punch. Then the girl grabbed me and pushed me and I feel down and then they all held me down and the big girl jumped up and down on my chest and that HURT DUDE!! You could break a rib! But I got up and ran and jumped over a fence and she chased me and then slipped and fell and skinned her knee. YAY! My friend picked up a sign that had a metal stand and was swinging it at them but then this drunk guy across the street said "YOU KIDS KNOCK IT OFF!!" so the fight ended.

There was like 3 other situations where I punched that same twin in the face in the same spot! A total of 4 times!

So YOU started the fight then and had 15 people beat on you?

I disagree. This all depends on where you live in the U.S. I grew up and lived most of my life in Southern Louisiana and we fought all the time. I mean everytime you walked outside someone wanted to fight you or come start some shit with you. It was really hard on me though because I have taken martial arts since I was 5 so everyone wanted to kick my ass so they could say they beat down a black belt. I was going to one high school and got kicked out of there for fighting (I was jumped by 7 guys and I fought back if that makes sense). When I went to my new school I got into like 3 fights the first week there.

Later on in life I moved to Northern Mississippi and I was amazed. I lived there for about 3-4 yrs. and never really saw any fights. I got into 2 fights over there in that amount of time and when I was living in La. before I would literally get into a fight almost every weekend.

You would really have to live down here to understand I guess because most people that come here don't understand. I mean we have these "fight clubs" where they do NHB and stuff on like every corner over here and usually have fight night at least 3 nights a week. I don't think I have traveled anywhere where people love to fight more than down here.

          Pre-emptive striking.

it seems that Britishers and Irelanders get into more street fights than Americans.
Nothing personal to you, but that is just an ignorant statement. It would be really hard to prove either way and would we really want to.

Pre emptive striking Kengar? Sounds more like pre emptive suicide! Ok there's 15 hostiles around you but no violence beyond mild pushing has occured so what do you do?:

            1. Hit the closest guy in the face and stand there proud as shit until they all swarm you and kill you?

            2. Try to get away?

I just found his story ridiculous because he talks about this horrible beating he suffered for a good size paragraph and then at the end he's like " oh but BEFORE they jumped me I HIT one of them." Doesn't that seem somehow.... strange? Like he kind of forgot that the whole beating was kinda his own damn fault?

Well, to tell you the truth I'm just having a hard time believing this story. Your right, it sounds pretty ridiculous.

Edited: Once there is a threat, that is the begining of the fight. No need to wait for someone to hit you.

heh you laugh but I've done just that before! Some jackass threw me down some stairs when I was a teenager because he didn't like me skateboarding in front of his building, luckily I stayed on my feet but I ran back up and smacked him in the ribs and knee with my skateboard, he then kicked me in the ribs and that was the end of that. I don't think either of us was hurt much unless he hid his pain very well.

"Once there is a threat, that is the begining of the fight. No need to wait for someone to hit you."

Kengar, you are right and that is exactly what I teach my students BUT with a gang of people ready to hurt you nearby I don't think first strike is a wise option. Running would be my advice in that situation.

I agree unarmed self defense is becoming less effective because it seems like EVERYONE has a gun or a knife.

It used to be an atmosphere of rules of engagement, where people at least retained some semblance of a one-on-one "fair" fight. This has been eroding for a long, long time and now gang beatings and weapons are way too common.

Training against multiple opponents is not a bad idea. Never under estimate whomever you're fighting; let's face it before UFC most guys looked at Royce Gracie and laughed.

i test for my 3rd degree brown belt in a style i have been taking for ten years.
part of my testing will include 3 seperate round of 3 min matches with 3 different people in full contact matches to immediately followed by 3 rounds of full contact grappling. Finished of with a 5 min round against 4 peple at once full contact.
this is after my 5 hour test on traditional stuff.
training against mutliple opponents has helped get me ready for this. still gonna suck though. Last test i didnt go to work for 3 days due to injuries. trial by fire is what we call it.
                              Anyway.....wish me luck guys.

I have been in sorta the same situation. I just got a new board and some kid I had seen before asked to use it for a sec. Me being a nice guy I said sure and let him. About 15 minutes later I saw him sitting on a bench on the side of the skatepark with my board under his ass. I walked up and asked him for it.

The retard told me that it was to bad and I just got punkd... I was very nice about it for a while and just said to give it back over and over. He didnt, he was younger then me but he had a friend. So at this point I was a bit pissed off. I looked over to where my friends were and they were watching me and holding their boards menacingly.. So anyway long story short the kid pussied out after I told him I would kick the shit out of him. His friend ran away.. So he gave it back.

This being said I have to agree with Andrew. I am a skater and my skateboard means a bit to me. So if someone tells me they are taking it, I am not really ready to do so. I would have hit the guy too. But I wouldnt have stopped there. I have been in a few fights with older thugs who think they are cool and tell me they have guns. The none existent guns dont work well when they are being trucked in the knees.

Skateboards are very usefull weapons, but no one seems to realize it. But from my experience never try for the head, always hit to the shins or knees. I dont really want to kill the person and hitting someone full out with the trucks or edge of the board to the legs, is going to take them down whoever they are.

I dont really see how he could have gotten out of that situation. Who knows even if he would have given over the board they might have attacked.

Oh and good luck kodankan, hope you do well.
