I was going for humor and a helpful hint.

That was me being tactful and polite...

Some folks are like the slinky toy, not much good for anything but still fun to push down a flight of stairs.

if you are set on a handgun id learn with a double action revolver once you can acheive being comfotable and decent accuracy with a double action wheel gun most auto handgun trigger actions are cake. &you can always cock it back for fine sighting. its kinda like learning to drive with a stick lol. problem with handguns for home defense though is overpenetration. even with moderate power cartridges (9mm/.38 speacil) you risk the bullet penetrating sheetrock, paneling and even 2X4's if you miss the assailant! thats why (imo)a shotgun loaded with medium to small shot (#4-7) at close range is way better, you can get fist sized patterns at the range most home defense takes place at with enough lead and foot pounds of energy to do damage and the small lead shot projectiles dont have enough mass to do any real damage to the person in the next room. and with a pump you can always have buckshot behind the small shot in the pipe. and the big ass barrel, the sound of racking a round in the chamber, and the understanding that shotguns are a "point and shoot" weapon of tremendous power have many times sent criminals scurrying with out a shot being fired!

cool, so a shotgun is better, figures. But unless I get a sawn off how am I going to conceal it?

Pardon me for asking. One minute you are being helpful and constructive, even recomending an alturnative, the next you are just being plain rude. Maybe you only explained your theories on firearms to appear tough and knowledgable to other forum members, ego masturbation I think the call it, and had no real intention in helping me purchase a gun. That's sad, I pitty you.

Why? I'll start with Glocks first.

IF the caliber size doesn't start in 4 or above do not bother bringing it to a fire fight. Parabellum rounds SUCK for knockdown power.

Revolver= Six Single Shots= Too Little Ammunition= Too slow of a reload time.

You can use a speed reloader but those will only get you so far.

My advice? Go for with MK.23 SOCOM or USP.45 Tactical or for the civvie version.

SIGs are also good guns to choose from...BUT avoid Berreta and the Glock as if they are the plague.

well the army uses the Beretta as do the thousands of Law enforcement officers and citizens with concealed carry permits who carry Glocks in calibers like 9mm and .357 sig, oh yeah if you need more than 6 shots from a handgun to solve a conflict you should realize you are woe-fully underarmed for the situation at hand brother, sorry you got caught snoozing. and the mossad uses silenced .22rimfire to assasinate terrorists so you caliber logic is way off too. you dont need knock down power to shoot someone in the face.

I have a Sig P245, nice compact size for concealed carry.. my next one will either be a Kimber 1911 Custom IITLE; or a Springfield Armory Marine Corps Operator

under the circumstances (you living in the neo-socialist nightmare that is the U.K.) I'd recommend joining a hunting club or whatever other loophole you must exploit to own a fire-arm in your orwellian existance.
