What to look for in a Knife

Been lurking for awhile, but this is my first post.

I am curious to know what some of you knife aficionados think of hideaway knives www.hideawayknife.com .

I bought one awhile back as a backup knife for one of the folders I routinely carry, and love it. I only bought the 440C utility knife, as I wasn't sure I'd like the concept, but am going to step up and buy one of the customs (leaning towards the James Coogler design).

I would really like Boarspear's take on the knife, but don't want to piss him off on my first post. Thanks,

What the heck does that guy know? He's just an artist and collector.

The hideaway blades are an innovative design for personal protection. They are good for their intended use. I like little tools and just happen to own a couple of Coogler's blades. You can't go wrong with James or Hideaway knives.

Collectors keep their knives in safes and leather sheaths. Boar and I keep ALL of our blades easily accessible and carryable, so .

I'm sure you're kidding, right? Please be kidding! We would never insult one of our blades by keeping it locked up in a safe! ... Some are considered to be collectors items but we prefer to see them as useful tools meant to be used, not just something we can cash in on later.

I've got an 70th anniversary Jack Daniels box that held a gallon bottle on my nightstand I set my blades on at night, does that count? Aside from that they're "stored" on my body.

Must be the same people who thought my kalis would be "worth more" if i let it rust and fall apart.

Without a doubt I LOVE freakin collectors out when I rescue a "Safe Queen" by slipping the sheath on and wearing it out The last dude actually said "AHHH You should be beaten" Hehehehehe I noticed he didnt try, one "tool" rescued from another.

I like the concept--that of an easily concealed personal protection device.

Pros: it's small, so it's really easy to carry; designed for good retention; multi-carry option sheath

Cons: it's small, so one really needs to know how to use it to maximize its SD potential...and this other problem--legality

Many jurisdictions prohibit carry of fixed blade knives, concealed or not. Carry of knives is forbidden in many, if not all federal buildings, and airports.

If you're an LEO, this may be a non-issue. If you're just a regular Joe Citizen, it might be.

It's not for me to tell you to carry this thing or not, because that's your call, but you need to be aware of the legal ramifications and be prepared to face the consequences if you do.

Also, if you do plan on carrying the HAK for SD, I suggest you take some time learning a knife-based SD martial art like kali, if you haven't already.

Check into your local laws. Most places I have lived allow you to carry a fixed blade openly without a permit as long as the blade is under 4 inches.

Right but concealed fixed is illegal in Ca...

*I can open carry a 10" Bowie for hunting and other JOB related tasks...

Heh, yeah, I do have a couple baby neck knifes.. I can see how they seem large in comparison.
