That's not what "Coprporate America" means. It is not a geographical designation, it just refers to the business world in this country.

You can never assume an assailant will be unarmed, I'd rather be armed and ready.

That said, it's more a deterrant than anything. Someone shady approaches you, you reach into your coat pocket, he's gonna know you're carrying something. He's definitely going to be thinking twice about attacking you... I've never actually pulled a knife out/shanked someone, never want to.
It depends on your locale and environment-I was responding to WILDWEST post

Geez, dont take it so literal.

I was using it as reference on how many work in the city and reside outside

In most fights, especially rule-less fights (like street fights), I use strikes similar to Muay Thai, and some principles found in Taekwondo, such as using momentum from your body movement. this keeps you moving, and makes your hits count a little more. As far as styles go, I suppose it would be fractions of Muay Thai, Taekwondo, and responses similar to Shaolin or Wing Chun, depending on situation (by responses, I mean reacting to a hit from blocking/deflecting in order to set you up for a desent counter). This is effective in alot of fights, including against multiple opponents. But, other then MT Clinch and simple manuvering your opponents, grappling would be considered a weakness >.< I usually try to get out of the grapple (again, especially in a multiple-opponent fight.). Flips and manipulating you see in Aikido (the circular motion is the idea i 'spose), etc. work well. thats what I do. So can I ask what else you consider effective?

This is strange. Martial Arts were develop to handle situations at their moment in time/era and immediate environment/locale.

How can one apply or create a street style if there are no streets?

Thanks to those who explained why they carry weapons. I'm not convinced doing it is what I would call healthy but I don't live where you do so reserve judgement.

Yes, in a "street fight" I, and most other MAists would use a weapon if the situation demanded it. I just wondered if it was necessary to carry them when you lived somewhere relatively safe.

Then you don't need to put your seat belt on if you're a pretty good driver right?

Between satanic cults and white collar rambo's, I draw the conclusion that you are all crazy as a rat in a tin shit house. I'm gonna stay here in Nebraska where I can get in a fight with someone in a bar that has a buck knife strapped to his jeans and I don't have to worry about getting cut up. Us farm boys are tough enough without the hunting knife anyway.

Oh and btw, Muay Tai clinch for the win.
