What do you think of this statement? What do you think of this concept? Why are so many people claiming to invent so many styles?

I think sometimes its a matter of politics. I invent "Britt's Asskicko" and teach it to you, you open a school and use some of my techniques and some of your own. I get in a huff because you're not teaching "Britt's Asskicko," so you say "fine, I just founded 'Hardball's North American Asskickfu.' " Then one of your students does the same thing to you.Originally posted by Hardball View PostWhy are so many people claiming to invent so many styles?

You come to the ghetto with your traditional martial art and I kick your arse with my very very tried and tested "GhettoKan"

Well some with the title are frauds cause they don't have the corresponding skills. Strong candidates for www.bullshido.net

I didn't want to mention his name because I have a lot of respect for cane. I'm sorry that you had to mention his name. My question was directed at the title of "Grandmaster" I believe that title is becoming too loosely used.

Sometimes it's justified to "create a new style."

I mean let's face it...that is essentially what the Gracies did...they took bits and pieces, refined it through experience, then repackaged it.

But by bringing a focus to the ground game, they literally did create a specific "style" fighting.

I think if there's a real purpose behind the repackaging, it's justified.

Unfortunately, my first reaction when I see a headline like that is: Zzzzzzzzzzz

[" And although we may do our best to avoid trouble, sometimes trouble insists on finding us. When that happens......when the time for talk is over, warriors act. They flip the switch and act decisively - ruthlessly if necessary - to preserve and defend the things that they hold dear."
Michael D. Janiich Why being a warrior starts with accepting the limitations of peace.

Has been ever since Grandmaster Flash.Originally posted by Hardball View PostI didn't want to mention his name because I have a lot of respect for cane. I'm sorry that you had to mention his name. Seriously, when I hear "Grandmaster," I think of somebody who's been studying for 35 or 40 years, and trained numerous people have gone on to high levels of proficiency themselves. Tim Tackett and Dan Inosanto would be good examples, if JKD used the term. Practically, though, I guess it's like the title of "king"...you're a king if you can get enough people to call you that.
