The question of the century... Seriously though, both are better than nothing... But neither may be better for you.. I've been training MMA for a couple of years now and I love it but, You got to be careful or you'll end up "Jack of all trades and master of none".. I Work hard on my throws and takedowns because I'm a good ground fighter.. Similar, If you were more a striker you would probably be working hard to keep the fight off the ground.. In a nutshell MMA is great, But I think you have to know what you won't in order to take full benefit of MMA's.. Good at everything and great at nothing Is not cool .. JKD is not around here yet, so it was easy for me.... Something else to consider?
    What schools are closer?
    How much are they?
    How good is the instructors?

Another thing to think about is real life combat. While I do agree that MMA has essential elements to being an effective fighter there are some things that I have a problem with it as a form of self defense. Mainly because MMA was created to involve one-on-one fighting.

I have a big preference for JKD because it's designed specifically for self defense tactics. Unlike mixed martial arts jeet kune do makes us of finger jabs, groin strikes and kicks to pressure points such as the knees and strikes to the neck. I'd choose JKD for self defense but for fitness I'd go with MMA because you have to use every muscle to be successful.

I take nothing away from MMA though. It is essential for being a well rounded fighter and it can be effective if used correctly.

17? Doesn't your high school have a wrestling team?

This is a good point. Wrestling is great for self defense.

A former gangsta, recently turned mma fighter once told me(like 3 weeks ago), "man, we was slammin niggaz on they heads endin shit before matt hughes ass niggaz".

I would say I've successfully used wrestling in over 90% of fights I've been in since becoming a wrestler(not too many fights since then, since wrestling really helped me clean my act up). But even before then I knew everyone wants to punch, but grabbin a dude and smashin him in the pavement/tile/concrete worked easier.

A JKD concepts school will most likely include muay thai in their curriculum, so will a good "mma" gym.

A high school wrestling team will let you train while at school for free. It'll provide a solid and effective basic style. It'll get you in shape...

I can't understand why every guy in high school with martial arts interests doesn't start right there in wrestling.

Agreed with Gregi. And more and more highschools that didn't have wrestling teams or only had club teams in the 90's have teams that compete in their district/state!

Unfortunately for me, I only managed to get one year of wrestling experience in middle school before going to high school. Thus, I can no longer wrestler because my school has no sports and I really don't want to go to my zone school to do it.

It may be possible to go to a wrestling gym to work out with them. My coach said that most high school wrestling teams will let you work out with them if you come in.

Actually wrestling makes people less violent. Releases energy, hormones, adrenaline. Teaches discipline, pereseverence, respect, self control. Hardly a promoter of violence.
