In Judo they also refer to it sometimes as "play".

I got scared today... On the way back from the farm I was nearly hit by a logging truck.

I took the "shoulder" (overgrown with brush) and scratched the whole right side of the Mercury... Damn!

Glad we weren't going much faster or I may have been in a more serious accident. The truck was in the middle of the road!

    Defensive driving is GOOD kung-fu!

Probably more practical than anything any of us discuss here (given the likelihood of a car accident versus a barroom brawl, gang attack, or wild pistoleros riding into town and shooting up the place).

Did you scratch the car against the brush or against the logging truck?

Oh... the brush... I had a few inches to spare against the big rig but he was looking at me real funny like he was surprised to see me almost in the ditch with a shiny silver car!

VS a LOGGING TRUCK? no fricking contest! I know when to evade trouble! (MOSTLY)

If you don't have something GOOD to say... better just keep your mouth shut!

As my grandma used to say.

                  Coward's don't mean shit!

Did you consider poking the truck in the eye?

                      I said I didn't know, that's hardly a conclusion.

                      Really, why is that?
Because training for "urban reality" is hardly necessary. Read OP.
Really, what experiences do you have to make such generalized conclusions?
that Tai Chi sucks for self-defense? Really? What the heck are you even asking here?
No, but many do take the time and effort to be better informed and trained to deal with situations they are likely to face on the job.
                      Yup.
I didn't know that some poor woman getting the crap kicked out of her because dinner wasn't on the table in time was supposed to be funny.
Wow, did I say that? At all? Please.
There are forums for MMA/BJJ, Muay Thai/Kickboxing, JKD, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc. Big deal. If you don't like this forum post then read and post in the other forums.Really, how is that?
There is an obvious circle of like-minded people here who respond to any opinion that doesn't match their own with personal attacks on anything from grammar, assumptions about age or experience, or intentions. A difference of opinion is instantly regarded as trolling, and crys of "LEAVE US ALONE!" or simply eye-rolling smilies instead of thought out rebuttal.
No, thank you. I would rather have an intellegent discussion than start another bullshido style sh** flinging contest.
                      OK then, let's start over.

How much time out of let's say 10 hours of training a week should be devoted torwards Urban Combat training and what should it consist of? I would say less than 30 minutes, consisting of de-escalation or problem avoidance for those lacking common-sense.

Or, for the less sensitive, what makes one MA more reality based than another?

Some people can't be happy with hiding behind the anonymity of the net, they have to hide even further by not even signing their fake name to their criticism.

                            That's truly pathetic.

Thanks again for not contributing anything but a smilie and some complaint about your cherished green dots. Of which I have recieved two for apparently no other reason than "spreading the love around". Ugh, I need to take a shower. At least those ones were signed.

If anything is pathetic it is the false sense of comradery you feel from like-minded smug Elmoresque perpetual victims.
