When I made some research on kicking, I figured out that it is not must do for the self defence. No matter how I tried to find a target for a kick, I found nothing, except the groin. I have no idea how often this happens, but sometimes when two fight, and one tries to strike the groin, it may gather the negative attention from the so called crowd. Sometimes, the people around shout: "where do you strike", perhaps sometimes it may earn your opponent a teammate. Of course if the strike connects it can end a fight fast
What is it so important to do in a street fight? It is to end the fight fast. I have no idea where should the kick be targeted at, except the groin. Kicking higher then a groin doesn't seems to be reasonable. The ground maybe covered with a broken glass, it may be covered with the ice, etc. It may be too easy to fall, etc
Another thing, punches. Punches are so fast, strong, and accurate, it can end the fight immediately. When one will kick once, another one can punch three or more times at the different targets. And the targets for a punch are many. Chin, jaw, temples, back of the head, neck, liver, solar plexus, groin. One successful punch will lead to more and to the win. Fast
By the way when you see videos like that, when a turkish boy alone won many people, you could have noticed that there were no kicks. Where do you put a kick in such situation? A muay thai kick to the leg, atleast one, will slow you down, and let others reach you. Now, watching all the fights like muay thai or k1, they actually win with kicks, but, they have gloves on. If it's fair, and kicks are as powerful as punches, why won't they take the gloves off? Because punches are too dangerous even for a trained fighter, with doctors are near to help, if something happens
It is obvious that kicks are not essential for the self defence
