  • Fantasy Island Materal? "Yes" or "No"?

    Hi everyone,

I found this comment made by a women on another women’s MA forum. I’d like to know what you think about it:

"A girl who loves the freedom and confidence knowing how to make an
attacker crawl with a light nerve shot".

From the things that I’ve read, I’ve come to the conclusion that these light precision type of strikes are almost useless in a serious confrontation. It’s my feeling that this women was sold a bill of goods and that this is a textbook example of the misguided self confidence that some women seem to have after getting a little bit of training.

However, I’m hoping that I’m wrong! At my advanced age of 46, and with the assortment of physical limitations that I’m stuck with, this type of thing would be a God send for me. As you may know from reading my posts, my work schedule prevents me from being able to train in the martial arts as I’d like to. So to compensate, I’ve put together my own hodgepodge self defense system which I practice. The system suits my own personal needs and my rather limited physical capabilities and is based 70% on things that I’ve picked up from books on women’s self defense.

So, what do you think of this statement?

"A girl who loves the freedom and confidence knowing how to make an
attacker crawl with a light nerve shot".

Is it total B.S. or am I wrong? Is it something that I should check into?

I’d love to hear what you have to say about it!

Its total bullsh!t. There is so much wrong with that, i dont want to even bother to go over it. Basicaly, pressure point stuff does work, against a non-resistant oponent (even then, it just causes pain, some discomfort, but never takes away their ability to fight). So if you're ever attacked by a vegetable, you're in luck, as far as that stuff is concerned.

Only a shot to the nads will do that and even then might not work unless its a really hard shot.Load of BS total and utter.Studying the womens self defence is a good idea though.

            Hi HandtoHand,

My feelings exactly! I'd think that it would be a bit hard for anyone to find (as she was saying) pressure point #15 on the neckline with a 220 pound bad boy sitting on top of her with his hands around her throat! LOL!!

              Hi TNT,

No follow-up that I know of?? I did tell her to get real though. Anyway, she got this stuff from a tape series that she has. She seems to have bought into this garbage -- hook, line and sinker! Wwll, you know what they say about a sucker being born every minute...................LOL!!

                  Hi guy incognito,

Agreed! Although even a shot to the balls should be hard, otherwise you'll probably just piss him off. The only places that I can think of where you might get away with a light shot is in the eyes, addam's apple or on the caritoid artery on the side of the neck. Anywhere else? Better hit him as hard as you can!

The women's self defense thing is right up my alley and I'm glad that I finally found out about it a few years ago. The thing I like best about it is that WSD is based on open hand strikes and assumes that most women cannot through a proper punch. It also assumes that the attacker will be bigger and stronger than she is.

Those are all important considerations for this 98 pound weakling! Understand, I'm left handed and when I was 22 I smashed up my left hand badly in a car accident and since then I cannot make a fist. So there went my big bad left cross! Add in high arches, some nasty arthritis, a bad back; not to mention a nonexistent left cross;and as you might guess, I'd have gotten absolutely mauled if I were ever attacked before I picked up on this WSD! At least now I might be able to actually get myself out of a bad situation with a palm strike under the chin or a kick to the kneecap, etc.,.. I never would have thought to use any of those techniques before I picked up on WSD. At least now I do have a few decent weapons..........

Agreed. Once the adrenaline starts flowing the pressure point attacks do not work. They do work in a classroom setting against a compliant partner which I think is why so many people think they work. Those are also the same people who have never been in a real fight against someone intent on inflicting serious harm.

Also, shots to the throat and carotid artery better be delivered hard or they won't work either. I've been hit in those areas many times and have seen others hit as well...unless it is hard, it will barely have an effect.

Just let her get on with it. You can never actually convince a person that the "magical" techniques that they have found will not work for them. They find so much comfort and reassurance from them.

Maybe if you were face to face with her you could give her permission to do them to you, but she'll almost certainly decline "for your sake". Deep down something inside her knows its bullshit, but she's addicted to the feeling of power the lie gives her.

                          Hi, Mr.Niceguy,
LOL...when I said follow-up....I meant what was "plan B" what was she going to follow-up that light shot with, after she "loosened up" her attacker. You mentioned that Women's SD concentrates on open hand strikes....what exactly differentiates General CQ SD from Women's Self-Defense???
