      fair enough Stabbychick.

Say, you don't seem like the type to carry a wepon out of paranoia. Do you have any good examples of needing to physically deffend yourself, and what actually helped vs. useless "twist, pull, step, flip, handspring over their head and do the Electric Slide"? (hmmmmm...though that might confuse them long enough for you to get away )

Little Apple, you're incorrect about people just flashing guns and not using them. In Dochester, MA, we average about a shooting a day - usually fatal. Stabbings often occur as well, usually not fatal but still many die from the wounds as well. Don't believe the liberal hype about people owning guns that they won't use in a confrontation.

I'm not saying people don't ever get shot, heck the reason that just waving a gun around ever works is becase it's a very deadly weapon. You seem pretty sure that I've been missinformed though, so I'll look it up again and get back to you with some exact quotes as well as my source. If I am wrong or outdated I'd like to know, after all.

FACT: In 2003 (the most recent year for which data is available), there were 30,136 gun deaths in the U.S:
                • 16,907 suicides (56% of all U.S gun deaths),
                • 11,920 homicides (40% of all U.S gun deaths),
                • 730 unintentional shootings (2% of all U.S gun deaths),
                • 347 from legal intervention and 232 from undetermined intent (2% of all U.S gun deaths combined).
-Numbers obtained from CDC National Center for Health Statistics mortality report online, 2006.

U.S. Department of Justice • Office of Justice Programs
                Bureau of Justice Statistics
                Homicides by Weapon Type

                2004
Handgun: 8,299; Other gun: 2,355; Knife: 2,132; Blunt object: 759; Other weapon: 2,593

This is all I could find at the moment. If I can find anything on the proprotionall use of weapons when they are in the situation I'll post it.

Is this your proof that a gun is deadlier than a knife? That people with guns are scarier because they kill more people? if things that kill more people get so much respect then explain the bimbo putting on her makeup driving the car, while talking on the cell phone and eating breakfast all at the same time

mosquito's kill more people then great white sharks, statisticly speaking...but I'd take my chances with a mosquito face to face.

not that guns are analogous to mosquito's...I just don't think the stats you cited were relevant.

                                For women's self-defense, I recommend WWE plus a lil taebo.....just kidding.

Actually, I'd recommend kali/escrima for getting comfortable with weapons like short staffs and blades; muay thai (not kickboxing) for infighting with elbows/knees/headbuts and judo (grappling).

Then again that's a pragmatic approach, so let's hop into the mind of a woman...

judo/jiu-jitsu - gross, i don't wanna be THAT close to sweaty men...

                                muay thai - cool

kali/escrima - i'll think about it, but lemme try muay thai first...
