  • enuff about tkd!

guys i read alot of you bashing tkd and its practitioners. and i think it's time to interject with a little common sense. the first guy i took any martial arts from was a tkd instructor. he was also a former marine and collegiate wrestler. he is now a detective in s metropolitan police deparment in texas. we stay in touch becuase he was also a police officer in my meighborhood and taught part time at my JHS. i was seven then and i must say 23 years of studying a wide range of MA from wing chun to aikido to savate have left me with fond memeories of mr. epperson. he was tuff, even on his kids class when we sparred we sparred hard. and when i returned to study with him in my early 20's the "grown up's" sparred full contact(we did not bounce up and down like wtf'rs). mr. e trained in korea and also study karate in okinawa. so lay off tkd if it's tuaght correctly (minus flying axe cartwheel butterfly kicks) its a fine art. mr. e always stuck to basics front kick, round kick, back kicks. he also taught groung fighting before it was in vogue. and he was always proud to be a tkd instructor.
i am astound how many of you bash tkd yet don't turn the microscope on your own arts. take JKD the all exaulted art of bruce "i study 3 years with yip mann" lee. i have spent years both with dill-jkd and the inansanto orginization. and i can tell you from using (or more appropriately trying to use) these techniques (while bouncing and studying to be a police officer) that lee was on to something with boxing and MT ,but alot of the trapping and patty cake adopted by the lee traditionlist (an oxymoron) and the kali ppl is ineffective. case in point i was bouncing a guy from the "rose" where i worked as a bouncer, he threw a haymaker i tried a to do a pak/lop and ate his fist, he then grabbed me i tried another technique i learned in a jkd class. now i was on my way to the ground. what next? i thumbed him in the eye, a technique i learned from mr. e when i was 7 or 8. we rolled around i wound up on top and applied a choke.
you no why MT guys win fights against TKD guys? becuase americanized TKD is a tad lax on conditioning and contact sparring. MT fighters on the other hand are aerobiclly fit and prepared to get hit. lets face guys there are a lot of good tkd schools just like there are a lot of bad bjj and MT gyms.
and as for self defense try a thai kick in athletic shoes and blue jeans or try fighting 2 guys while applying the triangle choke.

      one more thing!

don't feed me some crock about what a master street fighter you are or that you were taught some deadly form of h2h in the military! 'cuase the even the SF guy's don not train that heavily in H2H or MA. who needs a choke, thats what the silencer on a HK MP5 is for!

        calm down lad!

attack you???!!?! i was just telling you up front don't run some game on me! and yes a mark 22 hushpuppy is very quite. i was a paramedic with a former SF operator and he took shotokan and tang soo do ( i suppose he sucks too!!). and he is the one who told me SF guys do not learn a great deal of H2H. and there are a multitude of books that reiterate the claim. (ie Rogue Warrior rick marcincko)
don't talk crap unless you are ready to back it up. i am not going to argue whether or not TKD with you. but you need to get your SF info straight they do not sneak up and slit ppl throats if they can help it! ask one! a real one! i've never been in SF but i've read several books on the subject (and not BS novels either) face it your 15 you probably been in a shoving match or two and got youe ass kicked! so now you are looking for some ultra deadly self defense techniques good luck son! i am speaking from bouncing and law enforcement experience.so lighten up its my opinion and its a free country (or at least us liberterians think so) .

no dispute here on the SF guys!

son you are missing the point! of course an SF operator could kick the ass of a mc dojo martial artist. and i am well aware that a mark 22 is a 9mm. but why do you think the SF, seals, etc continue to advance the technology of silenced weapons. becuase slinking up and "cuttin' throats" is dangerous for sentry neutrilization. they did in WWII cuase that was aLL THAT WAS AVAILABLE.
i am not trying to change your mind about TKD, you are old enuff to be entitled to your own opinion. but you lack practical wisdom and experience. i was a bouncer for 3 years and have been in law enforcement for 4 years (including patrol and correctios). i have worked the streets as a paramedic in some pretty hostile locals. you're a young man don't let all this "hong kong fooey" eat you up. i am saying for the average person TKD with a good instructor is good cardio and SD training.
the only thing you can retort with is conjecture and stuff you've read! of course all these various other arts are going to impune TKD and say it sucks it's business! they are trying to sale you (and me) videos, books, and lessons.
face it the reason you say TKD sucks is becuase so many MC Dojos have produced too many 17 yo "cock of the walk black belts" who get their asses kiccked! simple as that!

TKD sucks ass. It is a great thing for kids to do, but for adults to practice it and not be a instructor is pathetic. TKD gives people a false sense of security period. And I don't care what MA you train, if its a group attack the odds are against you. BJJ, TJJ, TKD, JKD, whatever it is it will only help you a little in a multiple fighter situation. And I don't think too highly of JKD today. Yeah Bruce Lee was innovative, but that was the 60's and 70's, MA has evolved sinced then.

I train at a TKD dojo because my friend and another officer on my shift owns it. I respect him not because of his TKD but because he has extensive training in judo, boxing, TJJ, Tang Soo Do, HKD, and TKD. But when it comes to the ground game he knows who the man is. The guy I train with mostly is a former army ranger and self defense instructor. He recieved his blue belt from Jacare, and he puts the whoopin on me often. I'm also a paramedic, so I don't know what that has to do with martial arts?

                Quit being a bitch.

                MJ

ALSO. Isn't BREATHLESS a Kenny G song? Ok tough guy...

You sure do change jobs a lot. Is it because of your temper? Corrections, EMS (probably a transfer service and NOT 911 cause your such a puss), law enforcement, and now respiratory therapy. Possibly in the jar head marine corps too eh? You sound like a lost puppy that pisses on himself everytime someone comes up to pet it. Yeah I was a PARAMEDIC before I was an officer, so I know how it is to be in a situation unarmed. Just lick your wounds and leave bitch boy. No wonder you cant handle being a cop, someone gets under your skin and you fly off the handle like those kids with the helmets we saw getting off the little bus at school.

Most departments today dont have service revolvers, we use glock .45's like real men.

I don't just train BJJ, I also do hapkido, muay thai, and boxing. We do gi, no gi, and VALE TUDO. You talk about this neighborhood officer who taught you TKD and who was bad ass and stuff, well if he taught you so much why are you still a pussy?

How is Intellectual? Maybe for an inbred club security guard, corrections babysitter, ex paramedic, marine corp, dipshit.

                      Quit being a bitch.

                      MJ

And its M johnson not JJ johnson ass-pirate. I'm a TEXAN not a bitch ass okie.

OK texan! you got me i am so scared you might kick my ass with your mighty bjj and muay thai! i ain't leaving becuase you are scaring me dipshit! and i've worked alot of different jobs becuase i usually work two jobs (like most emergency workers do!) at once!
                        here is my resume abbreviated:
                        from age 18
                        Rose night club muskogee,ok 1991-1994
                        EMSA tulsa ok 1994-2001
                        delware county SO 1995-1999
                        Mcintosh county EMS 1999-2000
                        Corrections corporation of america 1996
my current employer is a 911 system so
oh and if texas is so great how come OU has been national champions a multitude of times while ut has been how many times?
oh and i am sure you are in total control of yourself grand budo biatch!
oh and i am sorry you will probably nibble on the barrel of your "service weapon!" and i am becoming an RT becuase i am almost finished with my exercise phys degree and i want to do cardiac rehab (and the combo work together) becuase someone close to me has severe heart disease and i like to help others. as for being an officer you should be proud but bear in mind it does not pay that well and talkin' shit like you do, you probably think you're a bad ass! so it is a matter of time before some 19 yo crankhead caves in your head! but i got say johnson i like you 'cuase at least you got the nuts to say what you think. i never said TKD was the best system on earth! it is like many other MA's a decent workout and adequate for self defense. no system is complete or else you would not be studying bjj and muay thai. unfortunenately the best muay thai instructor in tulsa passed away in 1997 terry gibson (instructor under sirsute). he was a hell of a guy. but his assistants that took over were not good business men and the thai boxing in tulsa dried up.
you really need to lighten up! i bet your BP actually goes up when you write your rebuttles i on the other hand laff my ass off!!!!!!
i am NOT leaving defend.net that was sarcasm! learn the differnece. any way i do agree with you on some points most martial arts systems do inadequately prepare you for the street and especially multiple encounters! as for being a pussy well i am what i eat! this exchange is quite cathartic! you get pissed becuase you called me a bitch and i retorted! i bet you are used to ppl back down from you! well enuff of this crap we both sound like two inbred jackasses!"ok i suck i am inbred, texas rules, uncle, i am a puss whatever you need to sit back and smile and make up for your inadequacies!"
one more thing mj please pray for the family of Oklahoma trooper Nikky Green he was killed this week in the line of duty, by a 21 yo dopehead on a routine traffic stop! God bless him and his family

Well I hoped somebody else laughed at it besides me. I was kind of proud of it myself. Never once have I posted in vain, I always say what I think no matter what. You have to admit you posted this wanting to get a reaction, and you got several. My posts just stick out more than others. Who's blood pressure was high again? You seem to get carried away in your words to prove yourself. Chill out man, its just the internet.

I like OU, my best friend is an Okie and former baseball player for OU. And just because I'm Texan doesn't mean I like UT. I attended Texas Tech.

For someone to state that a Martial Art Style sucks shows ignorance and stupidity on their part.
If a MA is not suited for you, then train in one that suits you. This is not a standard of measuring if a certain MA sucks or is great because it doesn't or it does (respectively) work for you.
There is a lot that TKD offers to many people as far as fighting is concerned. It's up to the individual to weed out the useful from the useless for himself, and his take will not necessarilly apply to others.
In short, Martial Arts is a personal activity, and it's up to the individual to come up with his "way". This "way" could mean it came from one style or from many different styles .

                              HAPPY NEW YEAR FOLKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
