  • Stalkers, Lunies & Freaks

Different from your bar room brawl. How does one protect against a repetitive threat from such individuals by legal means other than the obvious?

For example, you get repetitive phone calls from estranged individuals and or strange visits from out of place individuals on a regular basis?

Carrying firearms and or weapons is a good general method as is keeping out of shady areas, but this is not how the stalker operates. He/She is waiting for the right time and or moment to strike; perhaps setting up an ambush. Some of you guys have talked about some great tactics.

When you see the stalker, walk up to him and ask him for the time and/or ask him for something to make him dig through his pockets. Then Dragon Uppercut him. Drag his unconcious body to a nearby gay bar and break his legs so he can't run away.

Actually, I really don't know. How would you be able to tell they are stalking you though? Perhaps they just moved into a new neighborhood?

Actualy this is a very real issue. If someone really really wants to get you, the odds are massively in their favour.

        this is true^

all u can really do is remain vigilante and alert. sometimes u need to take matters into ur own hands, because others cannot protect u and your family, only u can.

forgot to add my other suggestion........

you could always consider treading the path that many good American citizens from the deep south have trodden so bravely.

Confronting your stalker live on the Jerry Springer show. That'll shut em up!!

Very true. The only exception being turnabout.

Taking control of the situation by being confrontational without initiating violence.

                    Documentation:
                    1. File a complaint with the authorities. Get the paper trail started as soon as possible.
                    2. Automaticaly record all telephone calls, some answering machines already have such a feature and you can go back and delete the ones that aren't pertinent.
                    3. Keep a camera handy and photograph every encounter. Again, some cameras are equipped with features to record the time and date of each photo. Knowing that they're being photographed can discourage a lot of non-violent, "nuisance" stalkers.

                    Back-up:
                    1. Personnel; Avoid being alone. Always have friends, family, neighbors around you and make them aware of the situation. If the stalker should show up when you have others around, point and say in a loud voice, "That's the one I was telling you about who keeps bothering me. Take a good look". Out them. Get a guard dog, preferably a large loud one who will bark and growl repeatedly whenever they sense a stranger's approach.

                    2. Weapons; Arm thyself. Carry weapons appropriate to the situation. Sometimes a can of pepper spray or a yawara on your keychain is sufficient. Sometimes you need an assault rifle.

BTW - The only time I was ever stalked by anyone, I wound up marrying her.

                      1. File a complaint with the authorities. Get the paper trail started as soon as possible.
It's tempting to assume the cops can't help you - and maybe they can't right away, but if they have the persons name on paper then they (and the prosecutor) will be in a better position later.
It's also posible this person will stalk someone else later in life - that person will thank you greatly for having the stalkers name already in the police file.
Finally, if you end up in a physical confrontation with this person, the justice system will be much more likely to see things your way if you already told them (officially) that there was trouble coming.

The paper trail could really be the difference between the stalker getting away with it again and again, or the stalker going to jail again and again.

Excellent advice from all of you.

I would also add investment in weapons training, not just the purchase of the license or the tool itself. For example, someone with a good grasp of escrima or kali could be just as handy with a maglite as they could a hunting knife or billy club.

Never disclose to anyone the type and or proficiency of your weapon handling.

you could walk around with a 250 pound amature wrestler named bruno. that would discourage contact with creeps. you could also join the mafia.
