  • So-Called "Streetfighters"

I was looking for the felatio smiley...couldn't find it.

Anyway...I'm just so sick of these assholes. They're worse than the yellow bamboo, Ashida Kim, USSD, Chi channeling lunatics that pop up here and there because they can actually appeal to people with some common sense who simply don't know any better.

How to survive a knife fight...bla bla fucking bla. Who gets into a knife fight. If these guys were for real, they'd either be doing time...or they'd shut the **** up, but their facade is diminished by their bragging and boastful tall tales.

You know what these people really amount to...people with no credentials, who have alienated any of their past instructors, if they had any...and who want to cast a hook and line into the sucker pool and bring in the dollars.

Every now and then they cast a semi-truth within their misguided and exaggerated falsities...but for the most part...they spread insidious lies, instilling false confidence and poor logic, as well as suicidal technique that will get somebody killed.

...I just read a few books...they pissed me off...I'm sorry about the rant, but if anyone has anything else to tack onto this, feel free to do so at your liesure.

Yea, there are a lot of those types out there. If you want a really good discussion, name names. Tell us which books your are talking about.

I noticed that the trend is for some asshole to come along and take a traditional martial art system and borrow 90% of it's techniques--then these loonies claim to have invented a new martial art fighting system all of their own. Complete with traditional techniqes. That's what pisses me off.

I've read articles that left me wondering.... If these artists ever met anyone that actually tried to inflict some trauma.

If the training needs to work against someone using a weapon then the training better include some serious intent to USE THE WEAPON! Compliant training partners don't help anyone...

true training combative's without resistance is rather uh....optomistic

BTW speaking of silly assed get you killed edged weapons teachings...

has any one ever seen steve the weenie i mean steve tarani's gunsite edged weapons set? Holy @#$% it is the funniest/most horrifying thing i have EVER seen. I know alot of people think he rocks...trust me the only rocks there are in his head...if you havent seen it picture this...he says "if you are in a knife fight, YOU WILL BE CUT...SO...put your empty hand in front of your face, spread your fingers and watch your opponent through the fingers"... then he says.."now when you get cut your throat and eyes are protected"...mind you his knife hand is at his waist like a karate fighter. Man if you take this stance your vision is obscured and your footwork is non existent. now get this.. his hand in front of his face is no more than 2 inches off his own nose i have yet to show the tape to someone with experience who didnt burst out laughing...we use it as an example of things to NEVER do.

I cant say i have had the pleasure of reading any of thier material... i rarely pay much attention to the idjit of the week's "new" sooper secret/deadly how to win fights and impress girls tape.

i usually get my giggles from students who bring in training tapes they have found over the years. some of the funniest were steves and a Tactical rope fighting tape thats a real rib tickler.

This brings me around to another sort of odd epiphany about all knife work, and all edged weapons training...

How many situations involving a knife are going to end up in a knife fight, or even with the victim being aware of the attacker's weapon?! A knife moves so many times faster than the hand, and can be deployed in the blink of an eye...which makes it already really fucking hard to defend against. On top of all that...How many knifings are suprise attacks. By the time you know there's a weapon at play, it could already be in you...and, just like a sucker punch...there is no way to defend.

Sure...you can be "more aware of your surroundings" and shit...but the best fighters and LEGITAMITE knife fighting experts in the world, even though they can work it....are still suceptible to somebody walking up behind them and woodpeckering a knife into their back.

And for "suprise attacks"...they are a suprise. How do you defend a suprise attack, when after the initial blow you're down or dazed?
You know the maxim, "everybody has a plan until they get hit"...what if you didn't even have a plan...it's more like "damn, what's going on"...shit happens fast when you're disoriented.

And...yeah...any of the aformentioned guys wouldn't do so well against an FMA guy in a straight up knife fight...their only chance would be a suprise attack...but the FMA guy is capable of that as well, as is any other joe schmoe.

okay mostly i agree with you except one tiny point...knives cant move faster than the hand holding them...now since you dont need the power of a punch you can strike with less force ie more speed...if this is what you meant i am with you

Very true...its nearly impossible to defend against a suprise attack, if you are attacked with a weapon of any sort. if however you hope to defend against a knife you do need to understand its useage in combat.
i have had several occasions where producing a knife ( or two ) has diffused a certain problem. sometimes pointing out that you are not the easy prey you appeared to be is enough...i have had a number of 5 dollar folding pieces of crap pulled on me in the hopes i would give up my wallet...usually one or both of my fixed blades appear at this point...its fun to point out that the two knives alone are worth a grand, come get em... this usually results in rapid retreats with comments about how crazy I am...yeah im not the one pulling a 5 dollar knife i dont know how to use on a stranger...but im the crazy one

it all depends on the situation...some times pull and move in... they flee, sometimes pull and spin let em see it, then slip it behind your back and move in... that really f#cks with thier head...yes you can get shot, if you dont pay attention, dont pull a knife(or any weapon) you arent willing to kill someone with, and if you arent willing to die over it ...dont fight over it...people arent right in the head...i carry my knives because they can go most places i can without raising an eye...pistols are very hard to conceal from a professional's eye's. they know how you need to dress to carry and where you weapon needs to "ride"... not so with knives...also since most shootings occur inside 20 feet (F.B.I statistic) and knives are faster to deploy inside 21 feet and quiet. and best of all a knife is an awesome defense against some jerk trying to wrestle you for your sidearm. ie clip a folder that is tip down carry in your left pocket (not your waistband...its nearly impossible to draw a knife from the waistband in a bear hug) then the folder can be shook open into reverse grip (cutting edge in same direction as your knuckles) to "clear" your sidearm of "extra" hands

For a program you are very inefficient, how is it you miss things that are printed documents that any high school kid could read? are you an N.S.A program?

so did you take my advice and call Cdr Data?... so was his program on a hard drive or was it a floppy?

Yeah the concept was fine, the moron on the tape wasnt.
virtually anything can be used as a weapon...rope is just another way of looking at flexible weapons like the bandana or Sarong...or to improvise.... automotive belts (seat and alternator or ac) extension cords, a towel, your shirt, a whip, your belt, your neckerchief from your Navy dress uniform (which btw used to have a roll of dimes issued with it that was to be rolled up into it as a part of your uniform), shoe laces and yeah rope.
