A good one. It starts with individuals being mature enough to understand the dangers and problems with keeping such breeds and choosing not to keep them or add to their unwarranted popularity.

I only preposed a real solution that would work, licensing and regulation of breeders and dog owners, including temperment tests for ALL DOGS like the CGC (canine good citizen), and stricter dog ownership laws. A solution like this would also generate funds to deal with the problem of stray/feral dogs that pass through shelters by the thousands on their way to die.

And the money to set up/expand government bureaucracy to ensure all of this licensing, regulation, and testing, etc will just fall from the sky. Oh, it will generate millions. Yeah, government always works like that.

2. How did the pitbull get ears shaped like that? Was he born that way? What about the tail? Why do most pitbulls have just a little stub for a tail? Is that genetic?

The ears and tail are cropped. They do the same to some other breeds like boxers sometimes. I've read where cropping the ears is banned in England now.

A gun is an inanimate object made for a very specific purpose; destruction.
It's potential to cause damage is solely in the control of the user. It'll just lay there collecting dust regardless of whether or not you're arguing with your spouse or your neighbor walks by walking their little yipping Pomeranian or you happen walk by it one evening and inadvertantly startle it. That gun is not gonna get nervous, upset or temperamental no matter how you treat it or what's going on around it.

No matter how expert or responsible the owner may be, a firearm left laying around in the open can more likely result in an accidental shooting and ANY animal roaming around loose in your house can attack.

I have to say, alot of you sound like old politician sitting behind a desk talking about crap you cant control or know anything about. If you had to pick out a picture of a Pitbull from a Staffordshire, bulldog, or any bully breed, you would neither be able to, nor really care. You already know what you think because you have been told by your parents and the TV. Pits were not bred to be human aggressive dogs. Rotts, german shepards, all sorts of "Guard dogs" WERE bred to attack humans. But these are OK with most of you, I'm sure, because you knew about these dogs while growing up. Pits seem new to most people, and people are afraid of things they know nothing about. This newness is also what makes them very popular. Soon it will have all the flaws all the other "Popular" dogs have...hip displaysia, blindness, deafness, and unpredictable attitudes. This is already showing up due to poor breeding to mass produce a popular dog. Same thing happened to cocker spaniels, german shephards, dalmations, huskys, Saint Bernards, etc. Pits are not "Known" to turn on their owners and posted in here so many times. Want to look at a dog "known" to attack its owners and familys? Lets start banning Dalmations.

For all its great characteristics, and its flaws, the american Pit bull is THE american dog. If you want a poodle, or a cat, I dont care. If I want a Pitbull thats my bussiness. I wont tell you to get rid of your cat, if you dont try to tell me how I should be living.
