you guys remember the episode of seinfeld were they go to the opera? theres that one character named Crazy Joe DiVola who is stalking Jerry and he is dressed like a clown on the night of the opera. there is a scene were joe divola is walking through the park to get to the opera were three thugs stop him and make fun of his clown costume. all of a sudden joe busts some kind of martial arts techniques and quickly dispatches all three men. i thought it was a cool scene because it showed more of the crazy joe divola character. joe had a bench press in his apartment living room were he would lift weights while listening and weeping to pavaratti. he was a depressed, deranged guy but he was tough and knew martial arts so i thought he was a badass.

more shows with great fight scenes, "A History of Violence"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cigKS99Nspg (not really a scene from it...the movie's so serious you HAVE to joke about it.)
here's the hard-core parts dubbed in French so it doesn't spoil the storyline for y'all.

            Oz

some of the Oz deaths...just scroll through to get to fight scenes

skip to 1:15 for a "completed arm bar". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWBFfkj9e6A Trust me...you don't want to see the parts before or after, and you REALLY don't want to hear Tori Amos singing.
(here...I'll summarize how bad it is...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDSJkMVLiF8 ) yeah. don't do it. (the sad part is, I actually... like the song.)

              The Musketeer

I'm not sure if anyone has seen this one.

The next movie I'm going to discuss is "The Musketeer". While the drama in this installment of Musketeer adventures isn't the best, the fight scene DEFINITELY are. The story is about a young Dartagnan and his beginnings. The plot is basically about how the Musketeers have been disbanded and how young Dartagnan inspires the few that remain to rise to the occasion when the Queen is threatened.

My favorite fight scene is in the beginning. I have NEVER seen choreography like this in a swashbuckling movie. Dartagnan used gymnastics, sword play and unbelievable nimbleness to pull off one of the finest sword fighting scenes I have ever seen. Watching him maintain his balance on rolling barrels was enough to wow the audience, but the skill level he possessed made me a fan of a genre that I haven't been partial to in previous years. In this movie, Dartagnan is like a cross between an extremely skilled musketeer and Jackie Chan without the cheese factor! Its very impressive. This movie was a sleeper.

Since watching it, I've viewed other Musketeer movies like "The Three Musketeers" and "The Man in the Iron Mask". They both exceed "The Musketeer" in terms of a deep story line and drama, but neither approach it in terms of fight scenes.

The end scene reminds me of Hong Kong cinema. Its a duel on ladders and they keep moving the ladders back and forth, clashing swords as they pass. You just have to see for yourself. Its a solid movie with excellent fight scenes.

That was a horrible movie, and they lifted those scenes directly from Hong Kong movies, creating a distracting comparison to movies that performed the same scenes much, much better and did nothing to save the horrible acting and did-a-teenager-write-this? script.

                      Fist of Legend

The best use of boxing against martial arts was in "Fist of Legend" starring Jet Li. The scene is when he fights the current head of the school, his master's son. Jet Li is reluctant to fight, and takes a bit of a beating before he realizes that there is more riding on this match than just his well being.

Jet Li begins to skip and shuffle, and when the next sequence begins, Jet Li lets lose with a boxing show that would put Ali to shame. It was beautiful. He was bobbing and weaving. He was slipping and counter-punching. A thing of beauty.

This fight scenes are great throughout the movie. Actually, this might be my favorite Jet Li movie. Not a lot of flying around and straight up scrapping. A great remake of Bruce's original movie.

Since you brought up Jet Li, is Fearless any good? I haven't seen it, but it's never available to rent and so I'm going to have to buy it outrightand I want to make sure it's a good flick first. Opinions welcome.
I haven't seen it either. I hear it was great, but The Portector was supposed to be even better.
