wasim is it not true that shiites stood firmly by the side of the prophets family while the sunnis accepted people outside muhamads lineage as acceptable islamic caliphs? it would seem that it would make more sense to favor the prophets own family members over outsiders wouldnt it? whats your take on what happened, and what do you believe to be right?

Islam is not ruled by a father/son ruling system or any other kind of family ruling system. This is the way the kings ruled in the past. This form of government is not what Islam teaches even if it is in the bloodline of the prophets.

If the prophet wanted his own family or if God wanted this to happen it would be in the Quran or Hadith. There are people living now from the prophet's bloodline who are not ruling.

In the Quran it states that the Lord is happy with the companions of the prophet. There are hundreds of Hadiths on the greatness of the four Caliphs. To say that three of them weren't worthy is wrong. Anyways all of them were the Son in Laws or Father in Laws of the prophet.

If the prophet's companions wanted power or to rule over each other they could of had war with each other to decide. This didn't happen because they are pure and good. They know what is right and they followed Islam the right way.

There is a Hadith to a close meaning that the prophet said if there was to be a prophet after Muhammad it would of had been Omar.

These four Caliphs and six more close companions of the prophet got the announcement of going to heaven in this world.

          Good point TY.

BBWasim, I certainly don't want to start a religious argument of any sort - if my comment seemed aggressive then I withdraw it. I appreciate you coming onto the board and sharing your thoughts, especially in light of the um, misunderstandings, between our cultures.
