this isnt an issue about 9/11 or jihadists. you brought up 911 when i objected to darrianations use of a racial slur, and tried to make it sound like 911 now justifies racism.

describing middle easterners as "sand surfing ragheads" is a racial slur, believe it or not.

I think it's often overlooked that the second amendment is as much symbolic as it is literal.

Literally, it's mainly designed to give the citizenry the power to protect themselves from an overzealous government and secondarily, to protect themselves from each other.


Symbolically, The right to bear arms underlines the citizens right to overthrow the government if or when it comes to that. It reminds us (both citizen and politician) who should be holding the reins.

The idea that the people run the government and not the other way round central to the American sense of justice. Even if we could be convinced that private gun ownership was unsafe or contributed to crime, it wouldn't matter because that doesn't touch on the central point.

The central point is that Americans (politically conservative ones anyway) see the government as a necesary evil and not to be trusted Certainly not to be trusted to safegaurd our rights.

Darrianation was type-casting a jihadist - not a middle easterner; the context clue was that he mentioned a guy trying to open fire in a public parking lot - something that no law-abiding or sane citizen, middle eastern or not, would do.

People made up racial jokes, cartoons and what not about that crazy kid Cho - but he murdered 30 innocent people, so you know people are going to attack anything (different) about the guy.
