Training at his gym or taking a seminar from him? That is what I meant by checking out his gym. I tried a few classes once before. On www.mma.tv under the shooto section there seems to be people with similar opinions about him. Just the fact that he lies by saying that his pro wrestling matches were mma fights is a big turn off.

Just a couple of things for people to think about, not trying to put anyone down but trying to stimulate creative thought. JuJutsu (Brazilian or any other) practitioners who wish to put a person in a submission hold...then what? Are you going to hold them for an hour hoping a cop might drive by? Are you going to break a limb and possibly face an assault or attempted murder charge (don't kid yourself, any broken limb is a possible blood vessel cut, meaning attempted murder)? Are you going to relent when they start crying or pleading, let them up and start all over again? If you are a muay Thai practitioner are you prepared to give CPR after you fibrillate their heart (happens often) with a straight knee? Or knock them out with an elbow, and maybe it cuts their head open so you have massive blood flow from a scalp wound? Judo works well because most people cannot breakfall, especially on pavement, and most common judo injuries are separated shoulders, perhaps the cheapest insurance claim you might have to pay, after civil suit. If you are not in deadly fear for your life, or the life of someone you are with, in most locales the use of deadly force cannot be legally justified. It is not always possible to run away after you deal with a street attack. Maybe the best street defense is a photo-phone...at least you can back up your defense in court.

Verbal de-escalation skills are a must. Its better to avoid conflict as best as possible. Cam-phone is a great idea.

CPR certification is usually offered by YMCA programs and are really good to have.

So I should not strike or lock a submission hold on but judo throw him on concrete? That will defenitely cause a lot of damage and does not sound like a safe alternative. A rear naked choke might be an o.k. option depending on where you live but hopefully you will use an reasonable amount of force or be able to stop the sitiuation.

To see the "art" in the techniques is a splendid thing.
In the confrontation, using the JUdo gives one the option of using only as much force as the particular situation requires. Putting him to sleep seems gentle enough.

There are many theories about how this or that is best accomplished but throwing him down is an efficient way to get started.

You want him on on his belly and compliant, not dead? WHY? LOL

There are lots of ways to convince someone that it's in their own best interest to comply. You just need to change their mind about doing anything to cause harm.

Edit; The photo phone is good idea! Even if they just use it to ID your murderer!

It would make a lot of other folks think twice...IMHO

A flower can either grow to be of graceful beauty, or die off. It depends on the planter. That saying, I believe no fighting style is better then another, it is all up to the user of it.

I don't know what that means. The planter is always an important factor."That is only what you think" saying I believe no fighting style is better then another it is all up to the user of it ?
