Silat Mubai: Muslim Silat Combatives

...These guys claim to teach Muslim silat with the chivalry and martial doctrines of Islam imbedded in, but what's the difference between that and the taoist or buddhist rituals and motiffs that run through other martial arts?

I mean, these guys claim to be on the level, so I was wondering what you're basing your suspicions on...is there any direct correlation between these guys and any terrorist organization? From what I gathered from reading their statements, it seems like they are strongly opposed to terrorist actions and fundamentalist doctines.

I mean, it's easy to see how a rumor about ties could be easily proliferated in the current political climate, but I don't think it's fair to jump to conclusions based upon their culture and religious affiliation. Just because they're Muslim's with guns doesn't make them terrorists.

But you said, "some of it is rumor"...what is the other part of it? If there is actual, factual information that could deter me from learning this art, which I think might compliment some of the other systems I train, please tell me, so I can make an actual educated decision about whether or not to study this art in good conscience.

if you even suspect an enemy is studying a subject, it would be wise to also take a look. Its the heavy handed marketing...the uniforms...the timing of the scenarios, just little things that make my bravo seirra alarms go off.

dont get too excited about the disclaimer dude...even if it was the opposite, do you think it would be on the front page?

As an example...

suppose you ran an operation than ran counter to public opinion...wouldnt you mislead people into believing them you were on their side if it was the ONLY way you could run your operation?


Im not accusing anyone of anything, i am saying that anyone practicing like that has more than a passing interest in killing people though. Ive seen my fair share of military combatives vs civilian class....those werent geared to civilian dispute.

What about Demi Barbito's claim of teaching "lethal force". That in-of-itself seems to be a type of marketing draw. Combatives are killing arts, as are all of the FMA. If it has weapons work, it's lethal. Now cutting a downed opponent may seem to be excessive, but it's taught in many other curriculums also, and I'm sure you've seen this, experienced this, or taught this also?

Even Crucibal has an open course for civilians occasionally. Why should I be barred from these types of tactics and techniques because I'm not in law enforcement or the military? Couldn't that be percieved as an infringement on the second ammendment? (right to bear arms)

Lets just say nothing on Demi's site was of interest...like i said its the timing of the techniques. As for if it has weapons its lethal...a hand grenade will kill you just as dead as a nuke...but they do it in different ways. Defensive mindset vs aggressive mind set...there IS a difference...one way of using a knife will get you in way more trouble than the other, trust me.

I didnt say stop the dude...i didnt say arrest him or even harrass him...i said watch him...people with a desire to learn how to "defend" themselves from "assaults" of others will find that site...some might be drawn to enhance their skills before a big operation... i would think the more militant as opposed to passive muslims might be visiting the site? many of the people involved in combatives might shy away away from a muslim fighting course during these times...i doubt too many US military guys are ordering those tapes right now.

well i dont think were gonna have a race war...if the BS from katrina didnt start one nothins gonna...so i guess thatll just leave those good old boys prepared for war...

i havent seen them ever do any real damage to anything other than a 6 pack of budweiser

I don't think Mubai is a threat directly. I think the threat is the mindset that it indicates among muslims.

Think what their attitude is going to be when (not if) we say "Ok guys, sorry, Iraq was all a mistake, now we're pulling out and leaving you your shit-filled streets, your shattered infrastructure and your makeshift graveyards."

And you know what? At this point I wouldn't blame them for doing almost anything. I imagine myself in that situation. Even aside from religion, I can't imagine the black hate I'd be feeling if I were an iraqi who lost a nephew to US phosphorus bombs in Fallujeh.

I browsed though his website and could find nothing which indicated it was geared toward civilians. Then again, I may be a bit biased, the dude looks like he could be my cousin.
