Systema
Vince,
Luckily there is a school in phoenix,
Russian Martial Art Club at Arizona State University (ASU)
Or go on Vlads site: http://www.russianmartialart.com
And click on other schools and check it out.
Systema is a great martial art, it covers every aspect of combat.
If you have any specific question, just ask. I will do what I can
to help you.
Best Wishes,
Steve

Great system with an interesting history, it was first proved battle worthy when
it was used to defeat Batman.
Vlad is the BEST at this, its like anything else many people jumped on the bandwagon....it is a complete style and takes YEARS of work to get proficient...
just look at the difference in the quality of movement when its vlad Vs the the rest of those clips...

BoarSpear,
Its funny, isnt a martial artist supposed to be humble and nice
So why dont you just quit acting smart now. But what else can someon expect from people that judge a style by some clips.
Systema takes 6 months to a year to get pretty eficient.
It takes a lifetime to master like all martial arts, you live a quiet and humble life, this beeing true mastery.
I dont start making fun of your MA background just cause I dont train in it or respect it, so why dont you show some martial respect and not make fun of what I train in.

i was making fun of the people who point out the batman thing...VLAD is an awesome MA ....however like ALL styles people try to get in the money...be careful lineage is hard to verify, especially in an art that showed up in a comic book for the first time. I happen to know systema...sure you can learn to remember it in class in a year or less, it takes years to achieve vlads level of mastery is all I said...Every JKD guy aint Bruce, Every systema guy aint Vlad, every kung fu guy ...aint even kung fuand so on...thats all i meant...do you see me making fun of the clips? or the art? i poked fun at the Batman people....look at vlad dude, i dont care what you call it or where it came from, it rocks!!! i wasnt bashing the other guys, i was just pointing out how awesome vlads movements are...many taiji people arent that relaxed or fluid.
BTW i dont know how long youve been training dude but yeah, I can tell ALOT from watching someone move...especially when they are teaching or demonstrating their art....and like i said in the beginning, second post in the thread i do believe...THOSE CLIPS ROCK!! or words to that effect.

BoarSpear,
Good to hear,
I must of missunderstude your response. Will you ever fogive me. It just seems like everyone on this forum has something bad to say about such a great art, so it kind of automaticly puts me in defence mode
. Its just that when you said it takes years to become pro efficient, it made it sound like you meant it takes 10 years to be able to defend yourself.
My bad,
Steve

My bad,
Stevei know all about the snickering
and i have been known to take a comment wrong due to all the crap those who chose other arts throw.
10 yrs to Defend yourself is a lifetime for self defense study(and that wasnt what i meant)...but 10 yrs to achieve Vlads ability would be a blessing.

The military link has never been verified because they use SAMBO.
Boarspear is not as far off as he might let you think, the KGBeast is the Grandmaster of "the" System.

Right.... Troopa! Uh huh... They just can't legitimize it no matter how hard they try... Why?
Because they use SAMBO.

Wtv... this discussion is going knowhere, I`ll take Vasiliev`s and Ryabko`s words for the systems history in spetz. I dont believe all of russia practise SAMBO, but either way its a effective style, so in the end why would I care what you think about who uses systema?
Im here to help Vince, not answer your history questions.

....
You are free to believe whoever you choose to... Don't take MY word for it!
Soviet System of Sport and Combat
SAMBO, the English translation of the Russian acronym meaning "self-protection without weapons" (SAMozashchitya Bez Oruzhiya). SAMBO is a curriculum of martial tricks, covertly taught in the former Soviet Union to the Soviet special forces (‘Spetsnaz’), since the Communist Revolution in October of 1917. Sambo has been the object of a voluminous amount of clandestine research, experimentation, and propaganda. For this very reason, Sambo was the Soviet attempt to suppress the patriotic and liberating tendencies of indigenous Slavic martial traditions, entitled "Russian Martial Art". Sambo was the Soviet hope to unify the State under one combat and one sport. A composite of 25 variant Russian style hand-to-hand combat systems, Sambo added complementary research from various European, North African and Middle Eastern influences. Weighing also upon the formulation of Sambo were some Asian influences from Jujitsu, Aikido and Karate. Melding these combat systems with the 25 national folk styles of wrestling, Sambo came into being.
"THE SYSTEM" (Aka SYSTEMA) is not mentioned because it has no LEGITIMATE history or lineage to any REAL martial art.
Sorry if this comes as a shock to you...
Perhaps a bit of HOPOLOGY is in order?
