If memory serves me correct Bruce Lee was more into unlocking one's own potential through practice, variation, and so forth. Instead of just building strength, try speed drills also. First make sure your blocks are correct posture and give you the best flexibility and strength pure each attempt. That way you can minimize on energy usage. Once you have that done try doing them as fast and as well structured as you can without losing flexibility. I would say 100 punches in many diffy positions, 100 blocks for each position you can try. Not only do you increase speed, but also raw power doing this. It's like this, if you had an opponent and you could get 2 well places hits on his body, even at pressure points, than he can then you are more likely to win a fight. If you hit fast enough, hard enough, and accurate enough you can overload his senses and turn his own body against him. These are just some of the things I have learned in my research in marial arts, but try focusing on blocks and attacks with the fist and hand more than kicks, a lot more, that way if you do end up in a fight for your life, you can stop your opponents attacks while successfully hitting your opponent.
Oh yea, don't forget the importance of breathing out during attacks and breathing in during blocks, aka a breathing rythem that fits you and your body. Your goal should be to get 100 well made blocks and/or attacks within 10 seconds. Not impossible, but extremely difficult, but if you can it will build both strength, speed, flexibility, and overall fighting power and if memory serves me correct, that's what Bruce Lee focused on.
