  • Question about bench pressing

Is the bench press bar the same weight for all gyms or does it vary?

  • #2
I think the standard Olympic bar weighs 45 lbs (20 kg) and is any where from 60 to 70" (160 to 176cm) long.

sometimes you can run in to some 55lb bars. I think we have 1 or 2 in the gym. I tell the guys if they aren't sure to take it to the balance scale and weigh it if they are concerned.

Thanks guys I was just wondering because I was planning on working out at the gyrm this summer and I had no idea if I would have to waste 20 minutes of my life trying to figure out how much the bar weighed.

            "Bench pressing stunts your growth."

can you elaborate on this statement? perhaps some links to scientific studies proving it? because i personally have been researching to see if weightlifting will stunt my growth(im 15) and so far i havent found any credible studies that prove it does. If you could elaborate on your opinion i would be grateful.

5'11'' is good enough for me. I weigh 145 and bench 250. Only 40 more pounds until I bench double my body weight.
