"Normal" is relative. I frequently suggest rock climbing to strengthen the grip and fingers. Don't take my word for it. See how long you can hold yourself up with two fingers...or one?

    Just a thought...

Yes, rock climbing would be a good why to train and test such gripping skill.

However, will this be such a requirement for others?

Does every person, or every art, require such stringent training in this area or another?

Can one, apply their skill, without having to train in this one?

For the record, I am not knocking the use of strong hands. The idea of a martial artist doing many things to maintain their level of skill, or to further these levels, is well noted and understood.

its not a reqiurement, but its like other things in training.
The question to ask is "if i do this, will i be ANY better for it" if the answer is yes then it is worth considering doing.
I wouldnt lambast anyone for not doing their finger training, lol that would be over the top. But its always worth suggesting and explaining why to people.
Will weekly grip/finger strength training help? the answer is a bit, it will make a noticeable change.
And for the 5 mins or less that it takes to perform it it is, imo, worth it.

I understand that. I am saying that people tend to over do something thinking there is a superior need verses other time in practicing more or other specific areas needing more attention.

as if they had found some secret or forgotten training technique and put all their eggs in that basket thinking its something special?
yes that happens a lot and is wrong.
A lot of martial artists have this mentality, this type of person is naturally drawn to martial arts.

Yes. I guess it is up to a qualified instructor to instill better qualiies and purpose of instruction.

yeah it is, ive always been amazed at the number of nutters and those seeking some kind of mystical answers or ultimate training technique that martial arts attracts.

There are threads on this forum about people thinking they have found a special punching technique etc and advertising it and so on.

The mysticism of martial arts is fading. Things used to be unchallenged as the "gospel truth" of martial arts.

Does that mean you have never trained anything, or for some reason you can't bring yourself to mention it?

A lot of folks on the forum think it would be a service to defend.net if Jubaji were banned.
