    Police Training

Thai Bri, im thinking of joining the police force its always appealed to me seeing as i have always been sucha tomboy
I like the idea of putting bad people out of business hence my martial arts (5 yrs training wing tsun kung fu)

I know that the police force is mainly based on physical and mental endurance and what should i expect if i want to train as a riot police woman for the mounted police force (horse riding)

    thanks

    Em,

I'm afraid you won't be putting many bad people out of business. Theres a tiny minority of the population that commit the vast majority of crimes. They get arrested again and again. Since the prisons are already full, they get community punishments, which means that they have a good laugh. Then they carry on committing crimes, and go round the roundabout again and again. As an officer you just fill out the administration forms.

And you won't even go near criminal in the Mounted Police, except for the occasional football match. No, you're life will revolve around cleaning horses willies and showing them to kids. The horses, not the willies.

And a word about police culture. Don't ever ever ever tell your colleagues that you wander around your garden with a blind fold on, developing your "chi". Your life will not be worth living. Trust me on this.

But you seem like a good kid. Get yourself in the force. Its a laugh, when you get over all the bullshit you have to go through.

      Fondest of fond regards.

        Actually, Chi is Scientifically Proven

For the doubters. A study was performed, I believe in the early 70s, on martial artists of varying backgrounds. While meditating, large amount of electormagentic energies were obivous emulating from what one might perceive as "Chakras", or critical gathering places of spiritual energy. Whether you choose to believe it or not, Meditation (A practice that focuses primarily on breathing and making the subconscious, conscious) is a very real and very scientifically backed practice. Recently, more Western doctors are perscribing Tai Chi, Yoga, and the likes to patients even before some more traditional Western practices.

If you think about it, it makes sense. Its great if you can breathe. However, if you control your breathing, allowing your body to absorb the nutrients from the air, you can actually slow the aging process (Taoists will tell you you can actually suspend it and have documented several individuals living well over 150 years, some of the more prominent figures at 800+ years). While potentially impossible, it does seem that the quieted mind deals with physical deterioration much better than the stormy one. Also, if you've ever studied eastern medicine, you'd learn about chakras, meridians, the elements, breathing, etc etc. In reality, they had to be doing SOMETHING right to have eastern medicine survive and still be actively practiced for well over 3,000 years.

Seriously, ppl who tell you this stuff is all movie tricks, are really clinging to a dying belief. Yes, a belief. Science does not rule out these things, science provides the methods to extend its borders, and that's precisely what's happening.

Also, I've said this here before, and I'll say it again. Try studying Abnormal Psychology for a little while, particularly Dissassociative Identity Disorder (previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder) and watch as a never ending world of human consciousness and its interaction with its surroundings explodes uncomfortably around you. And no, if you've seen a movie or a TV show about MPD (yes, movies still call this MPD because it makes more sense to the uninitiated) or think you can derive its meaning from "Multiple Personality Disorder" you are sadly mistaken and severely under-educated.

People, books abound on all this, new medical studies are coming out everyday. Health Insurances companies are beginning to offer coverage for Tai Chi and Yoga classes given the undeniable amount of real field data suggesting these things can improve Health and Wellness.

I have personal experience with meditation enhancing my physical abilities. Its one thing to be able to spew adrenalin, now imagine if you could focus into a particular part of your body and distance yourself from its "Flight or Fight" mental toll.

        Fear knowledge...

          Potentially impossible? Yes. Potentially.

Well you Chi believers you. I guess this proves beyond doubt that Chi exists. Like I said the other day to my Great Great Great Great Great Great Grandfather, whilst we rolling on the mat.

WHAT A LOAD OF BULL SHIT!

Sorry, I don't fight anyone unless they are over 700 years old.

Its a strict rule that I have, oh yes!

Ok, nevermind. I refuse to hold people's hands. These prominent figures in Taoism are like the prominent figures in Christianity. They may or may not be factual, but they serve a purpose to teach a valuable lesson.

Thanks for drawing on that one point, though. I suppose because I brought that up it completely nullifies the rest of the valid points in the post?

You completely missed the point of the post. Don't troll in this forum please. If you don't believe in this stuff, fine. It doesn't work for you, say that. Don't be ignorant. What of Eastern Medicine? 3,000 years of history???? It works for some people obviously. And its working for more westerners everyday.

I forgot why I stopped coming here for so long. Thanks for reminding me.

                              Intelligence vs. Insults

Thank you. You have yet to address a single VALID point I brought up. You seem to think its more fun to insult people. You call yourself a Martial Artist? I would certainly hope not. You have no respect, no discipline. Stupid? Seriously, you don't even know me, nor I you. I'm attempting to inform you of things you might not be aware of.

The 800 years you seem to be drawing on is straight out of Taoist _LEGEND_. Much like Noah, Moses, etc, etc is part of Christian _LEGEND_. I brought the 800 years up, to make a point. Mythology is BASED on fact. Much like Hollywood movies can be based on FACT, however they STRETCH the truth, make things blow up and happen in slow motion so that people with short attention spans can be amused. However, they attempt to convey something extraordinary. You won't see a Hollywood movie about a guy going to a grocery store, if he's just some guy going to get some raisin bran, so he can, as you so eloquently stated "squeeze off a loaf". You will see Hollywood movies about people who beat the odds, did something MORE than the average person might do in their short, meaningless, loaf squeezing existances.

So while, someone probly didn't actually live to be 365.24 * 800 days old, they did acheive something extraordinary in the context of their environment to have someone write about them like this. Much like Moses. Is that really that impossible?

I weigh 155. I bench like 95. Yet, I've arm wrestled people who bench 250 and I beat them, consistently. Why? How? Am I full of shit? Maybe, but what good would I bring to this board talking shit all day, none. So I don't do it. These boards are an excellent medium for sharing good information. Encouraging good behavior. Strengthening a community of Martial Artists. I'm frankly let down by the posts on this board. You may posess great physical strength and skill. Very well. There will always be someone smarter than you thoguh, smarter than me too.

The mind is an amazing thing. Seriously, please take some time to research dissassociative identity disorder. Extreme cases are amazing. Cases of people gaining as much as 20 pounds in muscle mass while switching egos have been clinically documented.

I have a cousin who's 6 years old. He's got some mental problems, ADHD and atleast one other undiagnosed anamoly. This 6 year old kid has the entire NFL memorized from its inception to current day and can recite every player's name, weight, school, position, team, and history faster than you and I could remember our birthdays. How is that possible? Is that not extraordinary? I know I am certainly interested in it. What if I could posess that ability without the mental handicaps he faces? Could I not learn something from that 6 year old kid?

Meditation, Chi, breathing exercises all work to increase your awareness of yourself. They are scientifically, and medically proven techniques to improve over all health and wellness and have been such for well over 3000 years. Just because there's a bunch of Hollywood movies involving it and MA, doesn't make it a laughable, insultable thing. I'm going out on a limb, and guessing you are a very strong person, with a lot of fighting skill (ego+insults, you'd have to be able to back it up). What if I told you that with 45 minutes of meditative techniques a day, for like 3 weeks, I could teach you to tap into your adrenaline, at will, focus its effectiveness, AND separate your mind from its adverse (and medically proven) "Flight or Fight" effects. You could keep complete control of yourself. Could your MMA not benefit from that training? I would certainly hope you'd think so.

Why then must you down play this stuff? I mean, seriously. Its not all about bench pressing, and who's the biggest guy. I'm only 155, 5'8", I'm not scared of 255, 6'8" football playing bad asses. I never have been. Even if they've proven they can fight. I don't get intimidated, I get right back in their faces. I've done things in fights that amaze even my instructors. I accept no limits. I see everything as possible. I assure you, this is the goal of science. Not to prejudice chi because there's a movie about it.

Broaden your horizons. Allow yourself to grow as a person. I can say with utmost confidence that you WILL gain a lot from meditation. It will make you a better person. It will improve your health. It will improve your awareness. It will improve your ability to control things like heart rate and breathing. I am dumbfounded as to how this will NOT effect your performance in the ring positively?

I will not resort to insults, nor will I respond to them. I AM asking for maturity, respect, and discipline. I will continue to respect you and your opinions, regardless of your inability to respect me.

You have in your sig, "never defeated". I would ask you to dwell on that thought for a moment. Reflect on the fact, that you engaged me in the "Mental Training" forum with insults. I fail to see this as a victory for you. To anyone who takes your side, I also ask them to reflect. How have you won?
