When I was jumping rope one day my uncle told me that boxers tend to jump rope a different way. So how and what exactly is the proper way to jump rope the "boxer's way"?

My mom told me also that If I I land (while jumproping) on my heel, it's going to hurt my spine. So how can I do the boxer's shuffle without having my heel touch the ground?

Does it kinda look like th Scottish dance where people cross their arms, squat and alternate kicking either feet in front of them?
I wouldnt worry about what your mom and dad say in this instance. Jumping rope in any way is a great workout. As you get better and better, you'll start getting bored and feel a need to "invent" new jumping techniques. Do whats confortable and keep up the good work. You dont want to get so caught up in learning a technique, that you actually spend more time learning, than actually jumping.

Skipping rope isolates your calf muscles and works them in a way that increases 'bounce' I don't know what the technical term for this is, but the same action which allows you to skip rope will increase your foot speed and your lower leg endurance.

jumping rope
I think there is no wrong way to jump rope, benefits are attendant in all of them. I used to change nuclear fuel rods with a guy who always talked about the 97 ways to jump rope that he had learned in 6th grade as part of a 'rope-skipping troupe.'I also saw a video of Mike Tyson skipping rope and he would alter hitting on toe-heal, and move his feet into positions like these: l / , l l , l \ , l l , / l , l l , \ l notice one foot is always forward. It looked very complicated but it sure would make your feet agile. There was also the great scene in the movie Tough Guys (?) with Kirk Douglas jumping really slowly but while running forward slowly and squatting really low. It is kind of hard to do
The only advice I give about jump ropes, (and I give it a lot because the only 2 things I require from a student are a notebook and a jump rope) is to get one with ball bearings.
