  • What boxing did to you?

I'm new to boxing, this amazing art.

I already have some huge benefits from my training. Apart from the obvious physical/conditioning benefits,

I feel more the mental benefits.

I'm much more calm. Less anxious. More confident. More centered. More focused. And more mentallty tough. Yeah, boxing gave me a kind of mental attitude that is THE reason why I train.. a kind of mental fortitude/stability/toughness.

How do you feel are the benefits of the sport?

    Good stuff Alex.

I started training as an amateur boxer very late, I had already been in martial arts for about 14 years by the time I started. What Boxing gave me was a huge wake up call in terms of just how misguided some of my notions had been from the martial arts. It also gave me a great insight as to how you can coach people in a simple, alive and functional way and get them good very quick - without the years of unnecessary bullshit. It also benefitted so many areas of my martial arts because of how much my attributes improved. I was fitter, faster, stronger, with better footwork, better body mechanics, and better conditioning.

Like you, it was also great for me in other ways. It was great for my ego, because that had the shit knocked out of it. It was great for my confidence and resiliance, because when you go toe to toe with amateur and professional boxers and come out alive, its a great sense of achievement. It was also great for my peace of mind, because it was something I had always longed to do but thought it was too late, and I'm really pleased that I walked into a Boxing gym at 30 years old and gave it a go. I still train with my coach as and when I can, and I think Boxing will always have a big place in my life.

I hope you stick with it mate, all the best in your training.

Boxing is both: physical and mental activity, keep up the good job!

[QUOTE=Alex R;336372]I'm new to boxing, this amazing art.

In all martial arts (and western boxing is one of them) the mental factor is desicive, cause body and mind are one thing. The benefits are outstandings when you follow a proper training method and respect your body in all ways: this includes not abusing of alcohol or staing too late at night. If you could meditate for half an hour every day you could benefit even more out of your practice.
