I don't really like the guy but James Toney packs quite the punch! I'm also quite suprised that nobody mentioned Evander Holyfield...he may suck now but in his prime he was a killer. Also Rahman has quite a punch!

        Forman

Foreman would by far have to have been the hardest hitter ever in boxing. Atleast thats what his opponents say.

George Foreman, 90% knockout ratio to bouts, which is the best ratio in the heavy's, nuff said.

                  Shavers a close second...

I have heard that Jack Dempsey was routinly accused of weighting his gloves because his punches were so much harder than those of his comtemporaries. I guess he first developed the technique of landing the glove just before landing the leading foot in a punch (called the 'drop punch').

                      Honorable mention, anyway.

i believe that could be heavyweight jack johnson,in his ko win over middleweight slugger stanley ketchel.i saw footage of this bout which took place back in 1908 when they often pitted middleweights up against heavyweights.upon ketchel decking johnson in round 8,johnson rose up from the canvas and unleashed a lunging right hook onto ketchels temple which caused the middlewight slugger to quiver away at the legs while unconcious.
johnson himself went down upon landing this killer punch.it had so much force while he was off balance that he flew forward and tumbled to the canvas himself.he looked pretty agile for a 210-220 lber though,in popping right up as he did.both from being knocked down and knocking himself down upon the ko punch in the same given round.

                          I would say

                          1. George Foreman
                          2. Teofilo Stevenson (Cuban amateur)
                          3. Rocky Marciano

Aside from them ---- adjusting for their weight --- I would say Thomas Hearns and Bob Foster.

Oops I forgot Ernie Shavers. He has to be up there.

You know, it is hard to say who the hardest hitter is, I mean if you are using KO stats, there's a lot more to the KO than brute power, i.e. timing and accuracy. It is possible to drop a guy with a well placed and timed shot to the jaw......
But, for the sake of the topic, I would place Dempsey up there, and Marciano.........
Ward too, for the body shots.....
                            Chavez was no weakling either......
but, based on pure power I would say Tyson had it. If you watch his bouts during the old Cus D days, when he hit those guys, usually larger than himself, with body shots....it moved them.........
The way I look at this.....who would I be the most scared of getting hit by......

I forgot about Chavez ----Totally Brutal. I've seen Mickey Ward fights and am a little less impressed with him.

I do remember the hurt Tyson put on Michael spinks with one punch and those rib-breaker body shots---I don't know where I would put him but I guess he has to be up there. .

As far as person I would least want to take punch from I think I would be tied between Foreman or Teofilo Stevenson----> do you remember Stevenson? He looked like when he felt it was time to end the fight he would just tap them on the head and they were out.
