Just like, plain 'ol wrestling? And that makes you some sort of expert on every martial art? Damn, I was certain that when I wrestled it didn't impart the wisdom of the ages on me. You must just be totally awesome dude!
All bow down to Jubaji! He has deciphered the key to all martial arts by wrestling for 28 years!! Who knew?
I'll take that as a "no". Maybe you would like to share your experience with us. Afterall you study....um...er.. well, isn't that funny.
If you are ever in the area I'd be happy to have a friendly little spar with you and show you what my art looks like. Until then I guess I'll just have to deal with those stinging retorts you keep throwing out. I'm going to go cry now.
The topic is "Chinese MA's in real life?". The assumption must be that you have none, or maybe you just don't want to share.
TTFN little buddy!
ROTFLMMFAO. Thank god this thread was bumped, it's hilarious.
Well it seems that in China, as in most of the universe, when guys go out and get drunk they tend to get into fights.
When I lived in Xi'an in the early-mid 90s, I'd go out for beers with the guys I practiced Taijiquan with and sometimes some stupid drunk would wander over and start trouble, same as anywhere. And they would get smacked in the mouth or thrown on their face, same as anywhere. A couple of the guys I practiced with were the type who, though they wouldn't admit it, enjoyed getting into a little scrap once in a while.
One time I was having a snack in the Muslim quarter with one of the trainers at a KF school I trained at a couple of nights a week when some idiot decided he didn't like the looks of us. Mr Wang gave that boy a pretty good beating if memory serves.
There were no crouching tigers or hidden dragons, and zero wirework. Just folks getting popped in the mouth, swept, thrown, or bounced off a wall. Just like anywhere else.
Most figts in real life will look the same. What differs is the populus
In some parts of the world, the guys are smaller and fight quicker
In other parts of the world the guys are huge and fight brawler style (pure brute force etc)
Also in certain places, you won't ever see a knife or gun, and others you will see them all the time
In the UK, most knife and gun defence that I have seen trained is not that good because the appearance of these weaposn is fairly rare
In the US (although I do not live there) I am sure that guns show up a lot
Therefore, whilst I agree that fights will often be the same, there are differences that crop up
Like I said I don't live there. However, I am sure that guns turn up in most places in America than they do in London purely for the reason that in London they are strictly illegal, which was the point I was trying to make
When I went to New York there were two guys on the street corner with guns sticking out of their belt
I'm sure in a club/pub environment they probably appear less and I am sure that certain parts of America have less than others (I am told that in Texas you are looked at funny if you don't own a gun!)
