u know, i never really liked the way spiderco blades looked. i also dont like alot of the ckrt blades, they look wierd too. good quality though.

I actually carried a plain edge Kershaw storm for about a year and a half before replacing it with a spyderco stretch which I like worlds more (altthough you could buy 6 storms for the price of the stretch). That storm served me really well, I like the little grit grips on the knife, and the fact that it has an extremely slim profile (I actually chose the stretch due to it's similarities to my storm) it's got a nice edge to it too however after about 6 months my knife had dulled to noticeable degree.

The world is full of quality folders. My tool/slasher of choice is a Browning. I carry it primarily as a tool, but definately know how to use it as a weapon. It's better to have it and not need it than vice versa.

Gimmicks? THE Wave? Patented but often imitated design

Masters of Defense folders are the fastest opening and smoothest production blades available IMHO.

Pat and Wes Crawford make the best Customs, They dont call Pat the" King of Tactical Folders" for nothing.

Inertia openings are faster and more reliable under stress than gimmicks like the wave and switchblades or assisted openings...weapons made to snag on my clothes just dont sound like a good idea to me.

And yet the Emerson CQC7 is by far the most highly sought after tactical folder of all times, and is the razor sharp knife, that has become the standard by which all hard use folding knives are judged. Some models now have the "wave" opening feature...

If the masses are buying it then its the best huh? so mcdonalds has the best burger, budweiser is the best beer and sony is the king of home stereo...and oh yeah we can add the emerson wave to the list....

Emerson Knives are incredible. My dad makes amazing damascus knives that I've seen driven through truck bumpers with no ill effects, and my choice for a folding knife for many years was the Emerson Commander. For a "gimmick" the wave opening design is extremely reliable and very, very fast. It's open and locked as soon as the knife clears your pocket, which means the speed of deployment is closer to a fixed blade than virtually anything else out there - even switchblades. I've never lost a "quickdraw" contest to a switchblade (they have to fumble around looking for buttons) and I used to have a standing offer at gun and knife shows: "If you can draw and open your switchblade faster than I can draw and open my Emerson, I'll buy your knife." No one ever got my money.

Now, I carry the CRKT Desert Cruiser (the one with double "guards") because it's a little different blade design, I can get it sharper, and it still opens just like the Emerson as it's coming clear of the pocket. It also has the lock for the liner mechanism, so once that's locked into place, it's nearly as strong as a fixed blade. Not quite, since it's still a pin and a pivot in the middle, but closer than just about any other folder out there.

No, I understand that Boar doesn't like the wave design, but it's most likely becasue he's never worked with it or trained with it. It took me about a day of playing around with it when I got my Emerson, but I'm telling you, once you learn how to draw it so that you're using the wave, it's a gross motor skill that's far easier under pressure than any wrist flick or thumb ride or button push. Just draw and get to cutting!

I actually carried a cqc-7 for years, but i sold it to a student about 7 years ago... when i UPGRADED to a handmade wortac from Pat crawford....i have plenty of experience with the wave, it sucks....you have to get the angle just right to snag on your pants...try that running, evading or rolling on the floor, or while striggling with an opponent, get back to me how well that angle dependant opening system works then....i sell knives at shows, i also challenge anyone to beat my draw and open on my masters of defense blade including the wave...i aint ever lost....sold a lot of knives that way though...any gadget or gizmo on a weapon that reduces its chances of performing exactly as i expect are silly marketing features, if you cant inertia open your blade, practice more and get a better blade dont take the mcdonalds easy way out and get the "feature" that allows your blade to snag on clothing....pros spend money to REMOVE potential snags from their weapons, hell some remove the ramp sights on weapons to reduce snagging...yet some people thing a knife designed to snag your pants on the draw is a good thing

Yup... You don't need to like something that I like and it makes no difference to me at all what kind of knife you like or not.

You and I will never draw a blade on one another and I highly doubt that everyone with a MOD knife is even a good student of the blade let alone a "master" of anything....

Its simple, i handle THOUSANDS of high quality blades a year, I dont sell anything i wouldnt carry, i dont carry anything i wouldnt bet my life on...different people set different standards depending on their abilities and experience...i have met MANY wave fans who leave them in the sock drawer now and carry something that inertia opens into pikal in one movement without ever touching a thumb stud

But its like mike says, so long as your knife is in the right spot in your pants it will open when you draw it...i saw a guy draw and the wave missed catching on his pants ... so he produced a closed knife with a flourish...then spent the next 2 seconds opening it by hand since he hadent practiced that since the wave was supposed to do that for him...thanks but its a gadget, you can have it...i have seen it fail opening at enough gun shows in the OWNERS own hands that i wouldnt trust it to work under stress in the real world.
