you could ask them to make it a official judo quiz.............but seeings how i have been trying to get my quiz in for about 5 months i wouldn't count on it.

1. A and D
2. C, I know he was an educator....
3. None of the above, Self-Defense that improve upon Jiu-Jitsu and is safe for all to participate in. It was intended to be a means to become a better person, but I wouldn't call that a religion. School makes you a better person, but it's not religion. There are lot's of things to make you a better human being, but not all are religion.
4. A and B.... it was an improvement on Jiu-Jitsu that was meant to be safe for all people to practice but still effective for defense.
5. False.... BJJ has very little stand-up, and what it does have is from wrestling. Judoka are generally better on their feet, BJJ guys are generally better on the mat. Judo does not allow leg locks, BJJ does. Judo has multiple throws, BJJ does not (I know it does, but it's not a huge aspect of the art the way it is in Judo).
6. I think it's irrelevant and probably just depends who your coach is. Regardless of what you call an apple pie, it's still apple pie. The name doesn't change the flavor.
7. I wouldn't know. But if they still do randori, they are still learning to do it in dynamic fashion. The boxes and sticks may help illustrate principles of leverage and such.
8. True and False. You learn how to walk by watching people walk, but you also have to try it for yourself.
9. Don't know, and don't care. Football players shake hands before games. Boxers touch gloves. It's just a sign of respect as far as I am concerned.
10. None. We have lots of Judo Champions. Maybe not as much as other countries, but I know Pat Burris is an excellent Judoka. 2 Olympics and 5 nationals. Your argument isn't great.

GREENTHING wants everyone to know that bowing in Judo = forced Shintoism = consorting with the enemy (that's the Japanese, in case anyone didn't know they were the enemy).
Noboby wants to hear it (again).

I think and now I will use japanese terms for is, that with Q8 you mean can you learn a throw doing it uchi komi style?
Uchi komi is meant to create, what I think is called Muscle Memory
It is part of training a throw not the whole training
Doing thins static first is the natural way, you first leearn to stand before you walk don't you?
If your teacher only teaches the static way, then he sucks as a teacher
I do not know how Judo is organized in the US but if it is the same as in orher MA, black belts are teaching without any extra training, in my country, at 1st dan, you can become a juvinile judo leader after getting the diplome, 2nd dan you can become assistant judo teacher and at 3rd dan you can become a judo teacher, all in all 4-5 years of extra instruction in didactics methodics, psychology, physiology and all other thinks involved in teaching as wel as some sports related topics and first aid
And often these guys are still competing
Also for black belts exams you are expected to gather judo point, 100 of them, they can be gethered at official events, if they don't they get the full exam with all the Katathey have the point, one kata is dropped for first
Lastly becoming a national champion will gain you a dan upto 3rd ( 1st jyu gets 1st dan, 1st dan gets 2nd dan, 2nd dan gets 3rd)
If in the US this is different than maybe these are some of the reasons why judo isn't as big as you would like it to be

yeah right lets start to learn our kids to learn to walk strait away, no need to first learn to stand
Uchi komi movement is the same as throwing
In randori the throw stays the same only the setup differs
I.ve seen a lot of ippon scoring uchi mata and they look the same as the guys did in uchi komi so there is no unlearning
It is learning in steps
first you learn the throw while your partner is static and you go through the motion
then standing uch komi, then moving up and down the tatami doing uchi komi, then practicing it as a counter to another throw, then randori
In this sequence there is no contradiction only logical follow up
ask most Champions on this world and you will find that all have trained this way
Now I do not know how your teacher does uchi komi so that might be the real problem

Kev, I don't practice judo but if you can't learn how to breakfall as a beginner you're gonna be in trouble even on the mat.
Boxers learn how to take punches so they can minimize hit damage. Judoka learn breakfalls for the same reason.
You're right that he who throws more will win, but in the learning process you will be thrown so you better learn how to take it.

Green thing......I think you are over-intellectualizing all of this. After people learn the components a a technique it is practiced a a fluenut motion. The purpose of learning breakfalls is not learning defeat or throwing the purpose is to learn correctly how to fall if thrown to minimize damage....qualitativly differnt that what you are describing.
As Toudiyama[NL] said it may be the teaching in your dojo that the problem.
No offense intended especially since this is one a the few sensible posts I have seen from you kevin.

Dude you are starting to crash again. I suggest increasing the doses of lithium, haldol and xanax and wash it down with 2 bottles of vodka and a lime twist.
HEY TURN AROUND THEY ARE BEHIND YOU....COMNING TO TAKE YOU BACK TO YOUR NATIVE PLANET
