You let yourslf be a good partner in practice and allow yourself to be thrown. But in contests and free practice I never had much choice to be thrown. Mostly I think don't hit your ankles together. I knew a guy that broke both ankles being thrown over in Japan.
The slap and your feet can help a little probably on concrete but they will have a hell of a time throwing me in a fight!
Wouldn't it be better to turn out and land on your feet or at least negate the score.(knees maybe)
Ideally turn out, land in position and throw for a full point score(Ippon)!

Dude anyone can be thrown me you anyone. I agree it would be incredibly difficult to throw me as well but the point is speed and suprise.
And now you want to land on you knees This happened to monica lewinsky and the out-cum wasn't good but you may have better luck
Usually with a turn out or turn in you land more on your knees turning a score into a non-score.Or a ippon into a yuko or koka
etc.
In perfect practice( mental imagery) I always land on my feet and immediatly throw my opponent. In fact I bait them letting them think they are throwing me just so I can land on my feet and take the wind out of their attacks. In real life I have seen guys practice throw for throw each going into another throw. Hey you gotta try right? Maybe try something a little differant .Whats it hurt to experiment around? (Oh , now there is an opening,no pun intended)
Wouldn't a better term be landing practice? A little more positive.
Teach the landing practice after the cartwheels and turn ins and turn outs.
This is so "old hat" I am surprised, but that is the classical outlook. Teaching / training methods have improved since the 1880's
Do you guys agree with that statement. Well then how have they improved. That is a real good question to ask yourselves.

Ok this seems more logical. But training youself to land on your knees from a throw on a mat is one thing on the street you will be in a wheel chair. But there is nothing wrong with experimenting
Actually toes and knees.kinda hang on to your opponent.
With me its always a frantic, panic stricken, last gasp, anything but letting myself be thrown, except in practice with your teammates. Cartwheels are a very good self defense move , practice them often very good warm up. In fact when your opponent is on his back keeping you at bay with his feet , just cartwheel over them ,right on top of them and go right into what we call the "smother hold". Hon-kami-shiho-gatame.
Just ignore their feet and cartwheel thru, very good contest skill!
Practice with a partner, have them flat on their back and when you slowly cartwheel have them catch your hip bone with their foot and help you over a little bit. Go right into a holddown.
