  • What's your fav MA weapon and why?

I have to say my favorite would definately be the daisho, two blades at once are crazy if u get good at them. But it is also very challenging to learn that is why they are my fav ma weapon

    Favorite ma weapon

A good filipino bolo knife with a sharpened puno, because it works well at all ranges of combat. A close second is my Mayawoto Musashi Katana, but carrying either around will get you into trouble, or at least, get you some weird looks.

      Bowie

To be generic, I would say knives. All sizes, weights and designs;( though I'm not a fan of little pocket-style or swiss-army-style knives).
I have two that I prefer to all others.
My bowie with a 14" blade, and my Anderson locking straight razor. Since I'm constantly doing field work during the summers, both of these weapons are multipurpose. The bowie knife works better than a machette, or ghurka and my locking straight razor can cut through just about anything the bowie knife can't. Both are easy to use, easy to carry, and mulitpurpose.

If I were attacked I would always have at least one of these knives on me. Either in my pocket or in my car. You just cant beat a good bowie knife.

my favorite martial arts weapons would most likely be a 1) cane (easily and legally portable as well as being multipurpose. 2) knives, could easily integrated into cane style (hook with the bend, pull in for stabbity death. 3) my mind, gotta have one the use the prior 2, and finally 4) the rest of my body, my nine basic weapons, always legal and I always got 'em with me.

            Nunchaku

I feel most comfortable using the nunchaku for performing kata's and stuff, i can appreciate that its not the most defensive weapon and against other more dominating weapons like a pair of something, i would get killed. But its the most fun to learn and when at a good standard looks most impressive. Im trying to learn to use sai's at the moment, but due to me having clunky fingers its difficult to rotate them around my hands. I'll stick to the nunchaku i think.

Kusari fundos a favorite of mine: small, concealable, fast, and you can do many many things with it.

My favorite would have to be a staff. I have a knack for it, and there are so many things you can reach out and snatch up that you can use as a staff in a pinch.

Bruce Lee always made nunchakus look really cool in his movies.

Raphael the ninja turtle had clunky fingers, and he still managed to use sais.
Donatello was always my favorite though.

my pistol. It is concealable and deadly from a distance as well as in close.

Well i don't even agree with owning a pistol "any bloody fool can pull a trigger", also even if Raphael did have clunky fingers he was a mutant turtle trained from birth. Thats 15 years trainning in the art of sai's and ninjitsu and stuff so i shall not be compared to him - clunky fingers or not give me another 10 years of solid trainning and i'll be as good. Donatello was quite cool but more of a geeky character i would have to say Raphael was the coolest by far.

Think about what you are saying William. You are saying that you don't agree with owning one of the most convenient, versatile, powerful weapons of our day? I don't see your logic.

Since when has a firearm been classified as a martial arts weapon? And SiWilliams logic may be due to the fact that he/she lives in England, and the right to carry hand guns doesn't apply there.

Any weapon is a martial arts weapon in some arts such as mine. It may not be a traditional weapon since it was not used when the art was created, but it is still a martial arts weapon. I'm sure that if they had guns then, they would have used them. Also, the logic SiWilliam used to discount guns is that "any bloody fool can pull a trigger." He did not say that he was unable to carry guns in England. Don't assume what was never said.

Using the tearm "bloody fool" should have been your first clue. Have you ever been to England? It's pretty much common knowledge that firearms are illegal, and if you look at the info at the upper left hand corner, you'll see that SiWilliams is from the U.K., aka England. As far as the gun arguement, this is a forum for martial artisit. If the gun was a resonable alternative for us, we all should stop training and move to Arizona where the NRA rules and carrying a handgun, either hidden or in the open, is very common. Since we don't, this thread should be reserved to traditional ma weapons only.
