Just my few cents...
Ok I would like to say that I am a little dissapointed with you people, not like you actually care but it's just something I would like to state.
Bod I was not trained at a McDojo, I was trained by a family friend for the last 12 years everyday. I did Kata, and your right about it not really being a good way for people to learn realistic fighting situations for the most part. however there is that like 26% of the times that the style of kata used can actually be used in battle.
Stances are usually good if you actually know how to use them and win...the way you speak of it makes it seem as though you aren't very skilled in the ways of most martial arts. I mean I've been in actual fights quite a few times at school. Now please don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying anything along the lines of me fighting at school being a good thing. I was just trying to say that if you actually know what your doing, using stances should generally always work. And You should only and I highly stress only! Use kata in very very very few situations. And about them for training you simply have a different training method than other people.
You may think I speak absolute excrement, and if so that is totally cool with me and I will leave you be. However, should you wish to talk "civily" (I am not sure if I spelled that right) with me that would be good.

So if you've been doing this for 12 years, "every day," and you've been in "actual fights a few times at school" that would make you how old? I'm sorry, a high schooler can know nothing of being a warrior.

kata debate?
How did this thread evolve into a kata debate? The Question was :Is ninjitsu a respectable style? and the answer is YES Ninjitsu is a respectable style. and as for Kata it is useful for beginers to learn timing technique and control. It is simply a training exercise it will not Teach you how to fight Advanced artist that have developed basic skills do not need to Continue to practice kata they should progress to reality based training or ufc style sparing. The key here is to respect each individuals personal style and level of progress and training. Check out ninjitsu If you like it it shouldnt matter what your current instructor thinks.

Does he mean
A) If you treat it respectably, then it won't be a style of ill repute?
or
B) If you treat it respectably, it will serve you in a self defense situation?
Neither really make sense. In the case of A, it's the way people behave outside the dojo that determines the reputation of a style. In the case of B, no amount of treating olympic style tae kwon do respectably will make it a good fighting system.
So I'm a little lost here.
