Quite a bit actually. I have boxed and kickboxed for 8 years. im not saying boxing is not effective or a great sport. All Im saying is that just because a boxer may have a good jab does not mean that he is better or could nessasarily beat an aikidoist. I do believe that all martial arts are great and all have great teachings.

bbbb, aikido is different for everyone. You need to do your own research and figure out which is best for you. Also try talking to aikido instructors in your area.

As a Taekwondo artist, I suppose I'm not the best source of advice on both Boxing and Aikido. However, as a dedicated martial artist who trains on a regular basis and watches many martial arts video clips and reads articles, I can tell you that no matter how perfect an art seems, it's always the man, not the art.

Aikido is a very good art. People rag on Aikido all the time. But people rag on Wing Chun too. Want to know who took Wing Chun? That's right, Bruce Lee.

Boxing is also very good. Boxers are strong, fast, well conditioned, and awesome with their fists.

Again it would come down to skill so I can't say who would win but I'll try hard to provide an analysis.

              Boxing vs Aikido:

Aikido is all about redirecting your opponents energy. This may seem like a bunch of bullshido to arrogant MMA guys, but a lot of the jujitsu-like locks and throws of Aikido hurt. The Aikido guy would need to capitalize on all chances or signs of weaknesses, as good boxers rarely show any weaknesses... Aikido would then need to get in a good position and do all that .... i dont know... flippy, hurting lock stuff they do...

Boxers.... Just do what they do best ... pound , pound, pound some more on the aikido guy and use good footwork

I respect the fact you trying a defend other arts, but you have to stop. You cant stop how people feel about things. They have the right to say what ever they want even if its good or bad.

                      here's another 2 cents:
An Aikidoka would have a very tough time against a boxer for the reasons that have been pointed out many times, but Aikido is also a more versatile art than I feel it's being made out to be. O Sensei (Ueshiba) was a martial genius who experienced real life fights with men who wanted to kill him early in his training. He knew what he was talking about and the martial art he developed would not be without a way to counter something as basic as a jab.
Now am I saying that I'd use Aikido against a boxer? Hell no. As far as I've seen Aikido takes longer to become proficient at than a lot of other arts and I haven't been at it that long, but at those higher levels it's pretty amazing.
The thing I like most about Aikido is the understanding it encourages of deeper principles that all fighting arts are effected by. I started Aikido hoping it would improve my Judo and it has passed that test with flying colors.

O yea and this is my first post on this site so hi everyone!

here's some examples of what one could do...now keep in mind, the moves are exaggerated a little so you can see what they are doing, but the one at the top would work very well against a Good Jab.

I think this because I have seen it used and have used it myself with great success. Aikido does take a long time to learn, but it is very effective once you do

Do you have any footage of an Aikidoka v. a boxer? I'm really curious to see how these work against real resistance.
