i personally dont think double legs are that great for real self defense situations. they may be great in competition and in mma, but not for the street. u are getting way too close and personal with someone trying to hurt u. i know a guy from highschool who is in prison now cause he got into a fight with some guy at a party and stabbed him in the back 4 times when the guy tried to double leg him. the leg reaps, trips and foot sweeps at least can be done while standing completely upright with less comitment and effort and can allow u to escape of needed. if u mess up a double leg attempt u are screwed. however u can chain together several foot sweep and leg reap techniques in a row in order to keep attacking even if u miss the 1st one.

I think you are mistaking a real double for some drunk guy at a party running across the room and trying to tackle you.

my arm drags are good, and i do use a foot stomp at the same time, it works sometimes, if ya don't belive me thats fine. I never got into football, how does a tackle work differently than a double leg train?

I'm starting to believe that you have never wrestled at all.

I practiced double leg take-downs all the time when I wrestled in school, although I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "double leg train". I can tell you that nothing that I ever did while wrestling was anything at all like the tackles we used on the football and rugby teams I played on. When you're tackling you don't care who lands on top or is in control just as long as the guy with the ball hits the ground for starters, and besides, neither you nor your opponent is moving at a run when you try to take him down in a wrestling match. You're comparing apples and oranges.

ive believed for a while that youve never done any form of martial art. you claim to be an expert in every one which is mentioned, but never actually say anything which suggests you have any idea what you are talking about.

every post you make is offensive and irrelevent. what sad existence youve etched out of the stonework is beyond me, just how much time have you spent on here being both worthless and irritating? you have WAY too much free time

ignore him eyegouge, its not a personal thing, he just insults anyone he see's

              im done, please continue...

Unlike oh so many around here, I don't believe I've ever claimed to be an expert at anything.

You, however, have taken yet another opportunity to demonstrate that you are an expert in being a whiny little bitch.

Shouldn't you be off cutting yourself or getting drunk and begging people not to hurt you?

thanks seppuku, i'll take your advice. Lu, a double leg train, instead of shooting in, wrapping the back of the legs and putting your head to the side and driving left while bringing your left leg in and circling on your knees like a normal double leg. A train just wraps the back of the legs and you plant your forehead just under there sternum and drive straight through. Does a tackle go up and through your opponent or through and down like a double leg train?

im more with the single leg/sweep on the street it just seems alot easier to do from in the clinch.

For a text book tackle you want to hit on the hips, wrap your arms tight, lift up and drive through your target. That's similar to what you're describing, but the last thing you want to do when tackling is hit with your head- that's called spearing and it's a great way to injure your neck/spinal column and possibly wind up paralzyed. It's also very different because you're going to be running at your target instead of taking a shot as in wrestling. If you drop to a knee a good running back (or forward in Rugby) will just plow right through you and keep going. There might be some similarities but in practice they are two very different skills.

All right. Just for you I made it a point to take down a guy who outweighed me by about 100 pounds just today with a double. Another time with a high crotch. I don't usually make it a habit to go live with folks who have 100lbs on me, but look how far I'm willing to go to please the people!

Mr. Jubaji, I am curious as to your background in martial arts and what day job you have. I have noticed that you do a lot of posts in which you come off as an expert, however, your personal profile is full of nonsense. Addionally, you stated that just today you "took down a guy".

Just curious, because I myself would find it hard to leave my work right now and just find someone to "take down".

Unless you are a high school wrestling coach, or sensei of a large, thriving dojo (I am not sure how many dojos are actually open during the day), I find your posts to be very doubtful. Please take the time to explain to all of us what is really going on here!

Are you truly an expert martial artist with an advanced and extensive knowlege of the finer points of 100's of styles, or a fat teenager in front of a PC who plays a lot of xbox/playstation, who has actually never been in a dojo?

I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, but your profile makes me really wonder.
