Your $0.02 is extremely valuable in my book.
You seem to understand why as well as how.
I practice the how (at a very basic level) and hope to one day understand the why.

When you get to the "Why Not" you progress further. Beause you strip away the unessentials.

Note that AFAIK, I'm the only Japanese speaker on this board, and the only one to have lived in this country.

Where were you, and what were you doing for three years? Teaching?

Dude, your quote is nothing but a few squares, the number 3, and some more squares Why can't I read your Japanese? Do I need to download something?

And Kimpastu, you should have done a little more recon on this forum before you started posting things like "I'm the only Japanese speaker"

Jubaji, I was in Tokyo for two years, and in Kanagawa prefecture for the remainder (Kawasaki city and Chigasaki (about thirty minutes south of Yokohama). I was doing a mix of teaching and sales.

Knifethrower, you probably do have to download something.

I lived in Setagaya-ku, Higashi-Matsubara (close to Shimokitazawa, between Tokyo and Meiji Universities on the Inokashira line) (a year and a half); Shibuya-ku, Sasazuka (closer to Shinjuku than to Shibuya, on the Keio line) (five months); and Shibuya-ku, Tomigaya (close to Yoyogi-Hachiman station on the Odakyu line, a month).

I see the san nian ri ben zhu.....shang and could understand what you were writing.

Got any online links to help kanji readers learn Japanese

Been told that when I attempt to speak, my accent is better than many Gaijin......

                            • Nah, I was an English-ho. The company took 85% of the lesson fee, and my bonus for a successful sale was the same (about $15) if the client bought $1000 worth of lessons or $10,000 worth of lessons.

Yep. I worked for the ESL equivalent of a McDojo. [McEikaiwa?]

For learning Japanese, this is probably a good place to start: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_language
