No, I never claimed to be a badass, I'm rather shitty actually. If you'll notice every instance (except when fighting the judoka :P) I got owned.

My point was to get you, and moreso boarspear (with his owning comments) off your high horse about Judo's superiority and BJJ's inferiority.

Now with a knife, first of all I wouldnt say I'm good enough without it to start practicing with it. Also, In the past week I've kinda decided to myself that I am going to fully commit myself (training wise) to winning my school hosted grappling competition (in my division anyway), its rather large, and it's something I plan on doing. I will re-evaluate priorities after that. Also I plan on Judo being a huge part of my strategy to win this thing.

Second, I couldn't find anyone to do it with me, my friends can be pussies sometimes (or normal I suppose). And, I doubt many people would go for it where I grapple.

Maybe I'll take a trip down to Florida one day... its what we Canadians do right?

How can Judo be inferior to Judo? How can Judo be superior to Judo?

BJJ is just another name for newaza... I don't think tachiwaza is superior to newaza, just different. I think it's more fun to slam someone hard than it is to make them tap out but that's just me. Something about the OMPH sound they make mixed with the resonating echo of the impact but I've been known to turn folks purple with good old shimewaza. That's choking or strangling to the BJJ players... Have FUN with your goal SG!

        All the best with that!

See slamming them is nothing to throwing the leg over the face and straightening that arm out though. I love the armbar, my goal for the competition is to win every match with an armbar. Not saying much because usually thats all I go for. Slamming is good, but pinning that face to the ground with the leg... thats the stuff....

Remember, they can still fight after being chucked... Well I suppose they could fight with a broken arm, but you could just hammer fist all you wanted with their head pinned... or stab I suppose.

Youre certain Rickson would have got KO'd or gone comatose from that throw? You guys are just so sure that would've happened. I seriously doubt it, and if their match was on the cement, do you think Rickson would have allowed Tripp to lift him...and an Uchimata is a hip throw if im not mistaken...so its not like Rickson would have landed on his skull, but right on his back, on the ground.....where Tripp would(im certain) get submitted.
The reason for sport fighting is to provide a safe and realistic environment to practice techniques. Judo and Sambo have IPPON - one of the ways of winning is: "Executing a skillful throwing technique which results in one contestant being thrown largely on the back with considerable force or speed." If you do that on the street then the fight's over, the other guy ain't getting back up (the Ippon rule tries to simulate fight-ending techniques without injury). Theres no way in hell that Rickson didn't know about the rule after competing in Judo and Sambo, every fighter's objective should be to win by Ippon...

Didnt I already yell at you for taking snippets of what people say, and misquoting them!

I never said it was nothing. You said you enjoyed pulling off that throw or slam that makes them go OMPH, I said the enjoyment that comes from a throw is nothing compared to the enjoyment of throwing the leg over the head and securing the armbar.

                STOP MISQUOTING ME!

And as for your "Ude Hishigi Juji Gatame" well...

ENGLISH MOTHER FUCKER DO YOU SPEAK IT!?!

It'll always be an armbar to me

                It's all good though.

                  Bite me!

........ You said slamming them is NOTHING compared to... blah, blah, blah.... I stopped right there and went off on MY RANT! SLAMMING them is EVERYTHING! It gives you a STUNNED opponent stuck in the so called OODA loop (Observe Orient Decide Act) While he's performing a mental evaluation of his injuries and condition and thinking about WHERE he's at and WHAT he should DO about it... YOU apply your cross armlock!

Slamming is the cake, submission is the frosting... Take a bite, you might see how yummy they taste together.

Everytime I try them together I end up being the frosting myself.... so much for the stun it gives the person. I will say that I've only ever fought the higher BJJ belts standing though (Black/Brown), and one time I did an Osoto Gari from the knees and got tapped by a purple right after.

I suppose it would work if I did it to white belts, possibly even blues and purples, but IMO if I throw them I get fucked up anyway. It's all good though.

I have a judo question and after reading you post i think you are the one to ask seriously I recently found out there is a judo class being taught by a ww2 era marine, or maybe korea war, anyway it is the "judo" our troops were sent into combat with. since I have no knowledge of judo maybe you can shed some light on this?

Go! Check it out... Some folks call it combat judo. It's a no nonsense approach to knocking people on their ass and putting the hurt on.

The combatives style "judo" tends to favor atemi (striking and kicking) to close the gap instead of starting with a grip on the Gi. Go see and let me know! Hard core players are rare these days. He might even use weapons?

EDC? Work knife? or "special" occasions?

In my pocket this minute I have a very small blade karambit with a kydex sheath to keep it from cutting a hole in my pants. It rides with my wallet.

My work knife is a small bowie style blade with a leather sheath that goes on my belt. The big K-bit I sometimes carry has a Kydex sheath with adjustable Tek-lock for multi position carry but usually goes horizontal (or inverted) on my belt. I also have a couple of straight knives with synthetic sheaths and kydex liners that fit my belt and sometimes a neck knife... That's about it... When I rarely pack them all they go in a zipper pouch or backback...
